Hi I was hoping that we had about 20 with this accelerated pace we need as much attention as possible. When did you apply? Are you in the medical field already? I was an medical assistant 10 years ago so I decided to just take the plunge and become an RN. Did you look at other programs? I looked at Rutgers and Drexel. But I liked the new program and the small amout of students in this program. I am excited to and look forward to meeting everyone on tuesday. I am surprised no one else responded to the post.

Hi yes I am in the program and I thought we start on Sept 26. Yes orientation this week are you excited, scared. I am excited but know its gonna be alot of work. How many do you think will be in the program?

[color=#000]hi, thanks for replying. i was discussing my dilemma with friends and one suggested to me to do both become an lpc and psych np but i dont need to do that correct? as i can counsel as a psych np and get paid for it right? i am accepted to a 1 yr bsn program then i guess i have to do a 2 year np psych program so basically it could be 3-4 years before i can practice. lpc needs 4500 hours (3 years) before i can be licensed and the program is also 1 year since i have a masters already. i guess i am torn between 1 year of school and 4500 hrs practicing my craft, vs. 1 year bsn trying to work plus 2-3 more years of np school. as an addictions counselor i love counseling and just dont want to lose that. kc bren

Hello all practicing Psych NP, I would like to be a PMHNP but love counseling.. If I opened my private practice can I do private counseling and get insurance reimbursement? I live in NJ and am really torn between two career options Licensed Professional Counselor and PMHNP. I know the NP will pay more but I dont want to just do medication monitoring I also want to counsel clients as well. I am currently working in the addictions field and love it. Thanks KC Bren

[color=#000]hi, i spoke to the nursing program today about ati and not to be sarcastic but it is what it is. a lot of schools are doing the ati testing. drexel in particular is the same way for the ace program and they want to make sure we pass the boards on the first try so their stats are not affected by unprepared students. i know for a fact that drexel will not let you take your boards until you pass the ati exit with a 90% or so. you can read about it yourself and how some of those students are having to do remedial work. harcum needs to overcome their provisional status and low pass rate and if this is their way of doing it then so be it good for them. no one is forced to attend harcum.. hey we are going to be nurses:nurse: dealing with people's lives and that should not be taken lightly. we all need to be prepared and i will do whatever it takes to pass those boards especially on the first try. good luck.. kc

Well not to rain on anyones parade but I have a friend at UMDNJ (BSN Program) and Fairleigh Dickinson who just graduated this past august 2010 and neither one has landed a job. NJ is saturated with nurses who wont retire due to the economy and hospital closings. Google closed hospitals in NJ and see how many there are. Also one graduated with 35 other people in the accelerated program the other 28 and honey they dont have a job either, to me its who you know. Drexel graduates arent much better either its just half of their students dont survive the ACE program. So all I can say to my fellow harcum students is to do your best and go for your bsn as soon as you can. I have a bachelors and a masters and will be bridging into an NP program as soon as I am done with harcum. Just because you had a bad experience dont mean we will and personally I dont mind the provisional status that means they are gonna work their ass off to make sure I pass my boards. They have a lot invested in this program to and I doubt they are gonna let it go without a fight and i think they got rid of people in the nursing dept as well. So thanks for the heads up I plan to further my education but there arent too many programs that are in the evening in PA you can get into without taking all these extra prereqs like lasalle. I dont want to be in school for 30 months either pursuing a bsn. I can be done at harcum in 18 and be working and pursing a bsn online or in my case NP online and in the classroom. Either way good luck ladies and to everyone else do what is best for you because I sure am. See you May 17th. KC

Hi, I had a 3.45 gpa for my BA degree and I think just about a 70 on teas all prereqs are done. Another girl that I know got in had a 2.65 gpa and 80 on teas and still taking one course this spring. Hang in there and call to see where you stand time is winding down and they did mail out medical packets for tithers and all that stuff to be in by April 1st. Hope you get in. Let us know.. KC

Can you transfer credit to your new school? Do you have a BA degree already so you can consider accelerated bsn programs? Did harcum try to contact you? Once again I am sorry you had a bad experience with them just out of curiosity did you guys pass meds in clinical? What things did you have to do besides poo duty? My friend is trying to get in harcum and has also read negative things about them now she is looking elsewhere to. She is applying to neumann university. KC

Wow thats something sorry you had such a horrible time at harcum. Did you try to discuss your concerns with anyone there? Did other people leave when you left? So if you learned nothing in practical how were students taking vitals and giving medications at clinical? Did you leave in the middle of the semester or afterwards so you can transfer credits to new nursing school? I hope you get in to both schools they are good choices did you try neumann university? Did you look into accelerated programs? Oh yea with harcum being so much per semester did they give you grants or scholarships I was wondering about that. So let me get this right test were based on 4 books and not power points or more questions were from book material. Evening only has one or two classes at a time the first being foundations there are 4 books for foundations? Did you guys atleast learn dosage calculations or had to take this med term test I heard about? KC

Hi, Arent the books and uniforms included in the tuition? In regards to the test did the powerpoint material cover what was on the test or did you have to read the book to? The professors were late to the day program or evening program? Did you get to choose your clinical site? You already left harcum right to pursue your bsn? I can completely understand money is hard to come by for me to and basically I just want a quick program I am looking around and some programs are over 2 years in length and I really want to leave the state asap. Do they give you like a blue print to study or a copy of the powerpoint lecture? I appreciate you answering my questions and good luck on your bsn I am sure you will do well:). KC
