NP or CRNA
Hello Everyone, Just wondering if any of you NP's ever considered nurse anesthesia and why you may have chosen the NP field. I would like to hear some of your positive feedback from being an NP. It is no secret that CRNA's make more money but one of my fears is the high level of stress and the limited pt contact as compared to an NP. Did any of you ever face a dilemma choosing between CRNA school or NP school? As a full time agency nurse I have made 75k for last three years, no benefits of course but a lot of flexibility. Some concerns I have for the NP field is lack of flexibility. Part of me thinks it would be exciting to work in the OR and part of me wants to also help the community. I speak spanish fluently so I think that this would be a big asset as an NP. I would appreciate any feedback. I appreciate the posts on this forum, however, some have been not so positive about the NP profession. i.e salary, available jobs, etc. sushinurse

What are the physical demands of the nurse anesthesia profession?
Thank you to all of you for responding. I am only 31 years and consider myself to be in good physical shape, I run 3-4 times per week, eat right, etc. I just started wearing support hoses and this has helped a lot. Your responses has certainly shed some light on this field. I have two friends who are srna's who told me not to worry that they sit down a lot but I wanted to get an idea from experienced crna's who know what it is really like when you get out in the field. I agree, if you really want to be on top of things you would need to stand up to see what is going on and better assess your patient. sushi nurse

What are the physical demands of the nurse anesthesia profession?
Hi Everyone, I am interested in finding out what the physical demands of nurse anesthesia are? Do you have to do a lot of standing like in bedside nursing, or lifting, pulling, etc.. I have recently developed pain in my legs due to poor circulation from standing on my feet for long periods of time. One of my concerns of this job is that i don't want to choose another path in which I will be doing just as much standing as I do with bedside nursing. Another question I have may sound silly but do you get plenty of "potty breaks" or do you have to hold your bladder for long periods of time like you do in cc nursing? Any help with this from experienced crna's would be helpful. sushinurse

Drexel Program
Hi Everyone, I am new to this site and wanted to get some feedback from anyone currently attending the Drexel Nurse Anesthesia Program. I had a question about their various clinical sites. Apparently you have to choose a specific site and do not get to rotate to different clinical sites. I am not from the Philadelphia area so I am not familiar with any of the hospitals. Which clinical site would you recommend? I was also wondering if anyone already attending the program would recommend this program. The Director seems very nice and the program seems to be well organized. Any info would be greatly appreciated. SN
