Which program is better LA Harbor or LA Southwest?
I ended up choosing Harbor College. And its been a struggle. I'm sure it was the best decision for me, but the program is definitely a challenge though. Almost finished with the first semester, then i get a break for summer =)

No worries. And no they dont require you to be one, they dont look at that. Just make sure to get your application package in on time and that u dont have more than one pre-req repeated and the minimum gpa. Take the highly recommened courses if you can, I believe its like 301a,b&c and dosage calc If you have all of their requirements and turn it in on time, then its all lottery after that. If you happen to get picked to take the TEAS, make sure to do some reading up and practice questions and do the best that you can (you have to pass it to be accepted). Again goodluck =)

I need some input on nursing schools in Southern Cali
A lot of the Southbay area schools dont have waitlists anymore either. L.A. Harbor College & L.A. Southwest College for sure. El Camino (both the compton & torrance location), and Rio Hondo College just to name a couple. It just depends on how far you're willing to travel. Most schools are based on the point system, and some are lottery based (if you meet the minimum requirements). I just got into Harbor and started the Spring 2011 term. It was based on the lottery and it was my first time applying. So its possible to get into a school without waiting FOREVER or paying so much $$$$$$. Goodluck and i wish you the best =)

Hey ICUterry. No there is no waitlist, so if you dont get in you have to send in a reactivation form so they can reactivate your app for the next term. Goodluck =)

I'm pregnant and starting the program in June
Congrats and where there is a will there is a way. You will make it through, it may take you a lil more time but it will be well worth it. Just make sure when it comes to clinicals that u are very vigilant about safety. Good Luck =)

2 W's in Physiology
Yea most of the cc's in so cal wont let you apply with 2 W's. You are only allowed one W or Repeat in all of your science pre-reqs so that may be the reason why you didnt get in. Go back and check with the schools to see if thats the reason, and if it is you are going to maybe have to do a search for schools that will take 2 or more withdraws. I wish you the best of luck =)

Just accepted for Spring 2011
Sorry Caffeine for the super late reply. But i decided on Harbor because they were both about the same distance from my house, so with that not being a factor since harbor has a high passing rate that is where i am now. I've been here for 2 weeks and its pretty intense already but i'm ready to stick with it =) Thanks for the info...

I am used to getting A's so this exam may be a real eye opener but we shall see. I'm dedicated to this and i hope i can make it all the way through. TEAS EXAM: I failed...Anyone take it with some advice?
Ummmm....look into rock classification. They have the examples in the TEAS prep book. As for the clouds I can't remember what the questions asked, but I remember it was on there and being like "really they are asking a question about clouds" lol. Look into what's needed to make a metamorphic rock (also found in the TEAS prep book). This whole science section in the TEAS prep book is very helpful, I really wish I would have spent more time studying that little section I probably could have done much better than I did. Hope this helps and good luck again. P.S. Hope that this is more suitable for the poster below me.

Low GPA, Non-nursing undergraduate student looking to get into school
To the several people on this post that have a low g.p.a., i understand where you are coming from. I went through many things starting with my freshman yr in new orleans and going through Hurricane Katrina and losing everything and deciding to come back after they said the school was repaired (it really wasnt). Being so sick that i needed to leave the state at the end of my sophmore yr (my grades suffered because of it) & go back to my home state of Ca where i got my bachelors from a UC and thrived academically. But i couldnt bring my gpa up from where it had fallen no matter how much i tried. I went to about 4 universities/colleges b4 i finally got my degree. Once i finished i decided that i wanted to go into nursing and wanted to do an EL-MSN program but it just wasnt reasonable to think with my gpa that it would happen. I went into my pre-reqs and after 1 yr of additional pre-reqs (previous bio major so i had most of them done). I applied to a handful of 2yr ASN programs out here and i have been accepted to 2 already for the Spring 2011 semester. So i just want to tell you guys dont give up. My gpa was was about a 2.85 cumulative which is pretty low compared to everyone else (but keep in mind in total i went to about 6 schools). It can be done just dont give up & if the first way you try doesnt work, search for alternatives. I plan on doing a RN-MSN program after i finish. Goodluck to everybody and i hope you all find your way into this profession =)

TEAS EXAM: I failed...Anyone take it with some advice?
I took the TEAS V in ca (early November) and there were definitely rock questions on the exam. I had the ATI study guide and just breezed over that section and i wish i would have payed more attention to it. I also believe i had a question or two on clouds. Good Luck with the retake, but make sure to go over that section...

Just accepted for Spring 2011
Hello all, i'm so happy but sooooo confused. I got accepted to both Los Angeles Harbor College and Los Angeles Southwest College for the Spring 2011 semester. I'm greatful but now comes the hard part. My parents want me to attend Harbor but i'd like to get all of your opinions about which RN program would be better. Would love to hear from someone who may have attened both and can share with me the pros and cons of each program. Thanks for any and all advice/comments :)
