Labor and Delivery Nurse wanting to be a Cardiac NP
Hello All!!! I have been an L&D nurse for 5 years and still currently work in L&D. I am also in school for FNP. I have about 1.5 years left before I am done. Since the beginning of this year I have been quite interested in cardiology and would love to become a cardiac NP upon graduating. However, all of my experience is in L&D. I am weary of switching to another unit while being in school because it would be alot on me to learn a whole new area and unit while trying to learn concpets in school AND learning in clinical, not to mention day-to-day life. Essentially, I am comfortable with L&D and can easily work without feeling like I have to learn new concepts everyday. Though I know it would be more advantageous to get experience NOW in cardiac nursing, would it completely cancel me out from becoMing a cadiac NP with no prior cardiac experience? I do plan on getting my clinicls in cardiology. Thanks for any and all advice. If there are any Cardiac NP's out there that had no prior experience in cardiology please comment as well!!

Housing Stipend Question
I am a current travel nurse in GA. I have a home in GA that I pay taxes on. I used this address as a permanent address for a previous travel assignment. I plan on using a family member's address in North Carolina in order to get the housing stipend so that I can still work in GA. I still will have my house in GA and will be paying my mortgage and taxes here. So basically I'm asking can I change my permanent address to the NC address to get the housing stipend without getting flagged by the IRS? Has anyone ever done this? By changing my permanent address with a nursing agency effect the loan on my home being that it is known as my primary housing??

Future Mother/Baby RN
I would say try to get a tech position in any of those areas. You usually have to wait until after your first semester of nursing school to do that though. You could also volunteer. Also in your Senior year try to get your preceptorship in any of those areas. These are all things that could be put on your nursing resume and may make you stand out.....Until then just enjoy nursing school!!!!!!

Northside L&D Interview
I went to Northside career board and typed in internship and it shows all the internships and the requirements. With an internship you get paid as an RN but you are basically training for a certain amount of time.. in this case it is 14 weeks and then after the 14 weeks you are on your on. Most hospitals dont hire new grads for regular RN positions. You have to go through and internship/ New Grad program to get into their hospital.Advice: try to get your preceptor for your last semester in an OB area. If you can get a externship postion do that because it will be eaiser to get the internship position.Be persistent and stand out while trying to get an L&D job because EVERYBODY wants L&D positions and the reality of it is that there are not too many positions out there. Start your search early and dont just send in your application. Call them, email them, and just be persistent. Make them remember your name.....I know it may seem like you are stalking them but you have to show that you are passionate about the field. For some ppl getting an OB job was easy but for others (in Atlanta especially) it can be difficult.

December New Grad GA board application
No....the GBON wont even process you stuff until they have your transcripts that the school sends them after graduation. The amount of time it takes to process your information depends on when your school sends them the information.THEN they approve you for NCLEX once all that goes through..The amount of time you're looking at is at least 30 days....(at least thats how it was with my school and many other schools)

Northside L&D Inteview
Had my interview today...... It went well. The interviewer asked basic questions. Like: Tell Me about yourself, Why L&D?, What are some of my weaknesses and how have I overcame Them?, Tell about a time when I had a difficult patient or was in a situation where there was conflict, How did I handle it?, Explain why they should hire me? And that was about it.

What's it like to work at CHOA as an RN?
The world of nursing is very huge.. the job market in atlanta for nurses is very slim! Trust me im learning the hard way now.. being that you have an already existing job at Choa i suggest you stay there for now being that you will most likely have a secure job there after you graduate. it could just be the floor you are working on that is not exciting. As you said CHOA has a lot of pluses that other hospitals dont. Being that there are many different areas of nursing you have your whole life to figure out which area is best for you. as a nursing student who hasnt even gone through all your clinicals i would say dont jump the gun.
