This is from the NC board of nursing. I asked if they had any information on a timeline for the requirement of a BSN and any grandfathering requirements..... Angela: Your e-mailed message was forwarded to me to reply. The Nursing Practice Act states that in order to become a registered nurse in NC a person must successfully complete an approved basic nursing educational program (diploma, ADN, or BSN) and pass the NCLEX exam. There is no discussion at this time to change those requirements. The Board's authority is only the oversite of the basic nursing educational programs. Once a person is licensed as an RN or LPN and they continue to renew that license the license remains "active." If they fail to renew their license the license becomes "inactive" and they may no longer work in a licensed nurse position/role until they re-activate the license. You may be referring to the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) report on nursing that was issued on Oct. 5, 2010. One of the recommendations was to strongly encourage all nurses to advance their nursing education. The IOM report also encouraged that all RNs have a minimum of a BSN education in order to prepare them for the nursing collaboration and leadership roles that will be necessary in the future. These proponents are being supported by the American Nurses Association and the NC Nurses Association. These organizations and the Board of Nursing are encouraging that nursing education programs develop seamless transitional programs from diploma and ADN to BSN to MSN to DNP or PhD in Nursing. Rouss - I'm not sure about the ISBN...I just have the APA writing style book that one of our earlier classes recommended, I think, psychology. Mine is the 6th edition, but the number is different. I'll bet B&N would have it. Try this website - it may give you the correct numbers... apastyle.org

Hey, I was trying to talk myself into doing something at the gym too....haven't headed that way yet... Jeep - Have you done the study style test thingy yet? Does it have a question for getting nauseated, hard to breath, fuzzy eyesight when testing??? PS - I found a book buyback website. Someone mentioned it on FB...It's called Abebooks.com. They gave me lots more than Amazon. I'll only charge you a 10% finders fee!!!

LOL!! That said it loud and clear...kind of, except for the astrisks!!!! Getting in the door is important, but I'd also like to have more money, but so I've heard, once you're in the door the BSN won't help the paycheck much, if at all. Guess it all depends where we end up! Got to get thru school first....this stuff is too far away to worry about now. First there's dosage calculations, labs, clinicals, midterms, finals, NCLEX...

Wow, Duke must have some power over her...my friend is an NP and just said that the State has not passed that requirement yet, and, like the RN to BSN, she thinks it won't be soon because of the shortages. Wonder what Watts has to say about it all???

I see your point, Lady, but there's no way they are going to tell all the students across the state, sorry, your last three years and $40K just aren't good enough, you have to keep going. I would be really maaad!

Even if bsn is someday required, they will have to grandfather us in, I would think, if we are half way through.

Count me out....TECHNICAL WRITING!!! Besides, I already know how to write big letters and little letters and cursive...what else is there??? Have to look after the 9th and see what classes are needed.

Jeep - I forgot that one...unadulterated fear! That's mostly at night that I lay there and can't sleep, scared to death of what I've gotten myself into!!! Chicken noodle soup and cream of chicken (I add bacon bits and jalepenos) are good and cheap too!!!
