  1. thank you for your detailed response. I think I will try a shadowing experience to see it firsthand. Just considering different areas of practice. THANKS!
  2. I think it depends on what type of nursing you left, and is it the same type you plan to get back into? I don't think 2 1/2 years is that much time out at all. It also depends on your comfort level. I did meet a nurse in a refresher class that just got let go 3 weeks ago from a public health position. All of her nursing has been in clinic, or public health.... so, in order for her to widen her marketability for hospital jobs, etc. she felt that she personally needed to take the refresher. I think it depends on what you feel your personal needs are to make yourself most marketable for the area you wish to return to. I think refreshers on the whole, are for people who have been out for 4-5 or more years.
  3. Hello, I would love to hear about working in a dialysis clinic. Any RN's out there who work dialysis? What is your day like? Thanks, Sue

  5. Hi Gang, My husband has to find a new job. I have been a stay at home mom for 15 years (worked 11 years in nursing prior to home transition). I've researched online refresher courses, and am set up to do that. I am a bit intimidated and anxious about returning to the workforce after all these years.:uhoh21:..but am hopeful at the same time, that I will be able to get a job. Anyone have any experience/advice with this scenario? Has anyone returned to the work force after a long hiatus? What activities/strategies helped you to prepare for RTW, as well as the specifics of securing a job? What area of practice did you return to? Thanks in advance for any input you can provide! I appreciate all the prayers I can get for our family. My husband has two interviews this week as well. :-) Thanks!
  6. Hello, I was hoping to hear from any RN's who currently work in a hospital behavioral medicine inpatient center. Would you be so kind as to describe what your responsibilities are, i.e. what a typical day might look like for you? THANKS! Sue
  7. My husband needs to find a new job. I've been a stay at home mom for 15 years. I need to get back to work to help support our family. I plan on taking an online nurse refresher course and then approach our nearby hospitals, nursing homes to try and find a job. I am a bit anxious since I have been out of practice for so long. It's encouraging to hear from others that they made it back into the active work force. Please pray for me that everything works out well for our family. THANKS!
