    Rush GEM Summer 2014

Anyone else applying for the Rush GEM Summer 2014 cohort? It's been a long road of prereqs to get here, hasn't it? I, for one, am very excited. And hopeful. Only time will tell. Drop a line to commiserate, at your convenience. Good luck, all!

    Rush GEM Summer 2014

I just had my interview today. It was very friendly and relaxed. I also got accepted at DePaul, but Rush is my #1, so I am truly hoping they love me as much as I love them! Good luck!!!!!!

    Rush GEM Summer 2014

I'll be at the GEM First Look. And I got the instructions to schedule the interview at the same time as I got the invitation to the GEM First Look. I have no idea about the interviews for Summer vs. Fall. Are you guys both applying for Fall?

How do you deal after a code?

Honestly, I love the codes, too. I'm trying to figure out what I need to do career-wise to always be involved in traumas. (How does one get on the code team, btw? Who is on the code team?) But I think after that unexpected code I was just unprepared for my own emotional response. You get hardened, what with all the emergencies that arise. So when the emotions suddenly surface in such a powerful way, it can catch you by surprise.

How do you deal after a code?

So today was my first "true code." I've seen several trauma patients code, and cardiac patients code, but those are somewhat expected. This patient was not expected, and it was my first time assisting in CPR. I think the physical exhaustion of doing chest compressions, the adrenaline of fighting to help keep the patient alive, and the depression of the unsuccessful outcome has taken its toll on me. I'm usually not too sensitive, but I'm pretty out of sorts. How do you usually feel after a code? How do you get back to feeling normal?

How long did it take your body to adjust working 3rd shift?

I'm wondering the same thing. It works better for my class schedule, but I barely knew when to eat/sleep on second shift. If anyone has any suggestions on how to cope on third, I'm all ears!

How do you deal after a code?

Thanks, nurseonamotorcycle. It took a couple of days to get past, but things are much better and my commitment to patients is that much stronger. I've learned so much this week!

Would you do it all over again?

Thank you all for your kind responses! Lots of food for thought. :)

Would you do it all over again?

Hi all, I'm currently working as an anesthesia tech and taking (acing :)) my prereqs for nursing. My plan is to become a nurse practitioner. So my question to all you good people is--would you do it all over again? Are you happy as a nurse practitioner, or do you have regrets? Would you have been a PA or an MD if you had the chance to go back? Or was this the best path? I'm pretty settled on the idea, but I'm curious about your thoughts. If you could include your specialty, that would be awesome. Many thanks! Emttonurse
  13. Hi everyone, Truman won't sign me up for BIO 226 until I talk to the department chair. Does anyone have any tips on how to approach him/what might get him to give me the okay? I haven't taken Biology since high school, where I aced it. I'm brushing up on a biology text now, and I'm an EMT. I'm not worried about my ability to handle the course. Any tips on jumping this hurdle?? Thanks!

How get past dept chair for BIO 226 at Truman?

Dare I ask what your argument would be? Curious...

How get past dept chair for BIO 226 at Truman?

Yes, there's a prereq for the class that I'd like to get waived. I have some convincing arguments planned :), but I was curious if anyone had spoken to him before and had any suggestions.
  16. Hi everybody, I'm just getting started on my path towards nursing, and I need some help! I'm planning to take my prerequisites at Truman, and I need some suggestions on professors. I haven't taken a science course in years, so I'd like to sign up for classes with the best/most helpful teachers. Any suggestions? I'm planning to take: Human Structure & Function I and II (Bio 226 and 227/aka Anatomy & Physiology) General Chemistry I (Chem 201) Survey of Organic and Biochemistry (Chem 212/aka Organic Chem) General Microbilogy w/Lab (Micro 233) Introductory Statistics (Math 125) General Psychology (Psych 201) Nutrition (Bio 107) Human Growth and Development I (Cde101 or Psyc 207) Any other comments are welcome! Thanks!!
