  1. Thank you. The reason why my daughter tested positive on the mono blot test may be due to the fact she had mono when she was 9 years old. From the articles I have read, once a person has mono, they may test positive on the blot test for life. The test that the specialist performed was to see if there had been a RECENT mono infection. I will be speaking with the new doctor today concerning that fact. Thanks!
  2. my daughter has been very ill recently. Because of the failure of her previous doctor to diagnose, I was given the choice of a NEW doctor. Very new. She just recently received her license as an MD. (June) Please understand that I had no choice in who would see my daughter. The facility has several doctors, but only one was taking new patients. My gripe? This new doctor is questioning the judgment of a 25 year veteran doctor who specializes in Internal medicine and nephrology. who treated my daughter for the 4 days she was in the hospital in a larger city. The two of them are literally arguing over whether my daughter had mono. One simple test was done here in our local ER and showed positive for mono, while another more in depth test showed that my daughter did NOT have mono. I asked the specialist to fax a copy of the test results to my daughters primary care physician, which they did. Tomorrow we visit the NEW doctor and I am going to ask her if she has received the fax from the specialist. The fax will indeed verify that my daughter in fact did NOT have mono. When I spoke to the new primary care physican on our last visit and told her that my daughter did NOT have mono, she rolled her eyes and stated that the specialist doesn't know what he is saying????? Red flag here anyone? I just need some advice on how to pursue this issue. The specialist wants to keep close watch on my daughter while the primary care physician is doing everything in her power to put him down and dismiss him as "not knowing what he is talking about". Any advice? Thanks :)
  3. I think your idea is good. I have been so upset since this interview. I don't understand what kind of person they want working for them, but I am a nurse and I do think all people deserve compassion especially those going through a very rough time. I know the CEO went through a hard time because her husband was an alcoholic and he was a well known figure in our town because of his high profile job, but that doesn't give her a right to judge me. I will get over this sooner or later. I won't be applying there ever again. They have an ad for nurses, techs and EMT's in the paper at least once a month. Must be a terrible turnover rate and a place no one wants to work. Thanks again :)
  4. you are exactly right. The CEO has been there way too long and her ideas are outdated. She has a Masters in Social Work, not nursing and she judged me on the idea that I am nice? What does she want working there? People who are bullies and don't care about the well being of the people who are seeking treatment? I am sorry that you had to endure a place like the one I described with people who don't care. I am glad that you did find a place that helped you. No wonder this place has such a high turnover rate. With the attitude the CEO has, it's a wonder the place doesn't fall apart. They are constantly advertising for nurses and techs. Must be h3ll to work at that place Thanks for the reply :)
  5. my cousin couldn't pass the entrance test to become a nurse, so her mother, my aunt, is always telling my mother that my cousin never really wanted to be a nurse anyway! Guess my cousin didn't tell my aunt the truth that she couldn't pass the entrance exam twice. So, not mean at all! :)
  6. when I started out as a RN back in 1996, $12 was the beginning rate. Most of the nursing assistants that I have trained in the past are starting out between $9.00 to $10.00 an hour and given 6 weeks of training.
  7. yes I was wondering the same thing. I bet she doesn't work for $12 an hour. She tried to justify the wages by saying they are state funded. I know for a fact that she isn't getting that low of a salary. How she can even offer a nurse with my experience that low of a wage is silly. Most facilities pay extra for the years of experience that a nurse has. I have 13 years of experience. If I had known from the beginning that the wage was so low I wouldn't have even applied.
  8. the administrator told me that since the nurse stepped down from the nursing position, he is NOT to act as a nurse in any capacity, so I wouldn't have him as help.
  9. I had an interview yesterday with our local addictions facility CEO and charge nurse. This is an inpatient facility, but also treats clients on an outpatient basis too. My interview was a nightmare. First off, I had to take a 2 page test concerning addictions, which wasn't too bad. I also had to take a personality test too. Then on to the interview: I was told by the CEO that "I am too nice" and would be the kind of nurse who would break down to the manipulative behavior of the residents and buy them cigarettes and take them home with me!??? I was insulted. I am still insulted. Not only am I very upset about this interview and being "labeled" as someone who would break the rules, but insulted that they would say something like this about a professional. I am not a rule breaker, never have been and am insulted the CEO herself would judge me in that manner. Perhaps they have had nurses in the past do those types of things, but I have worked in a supermax prison and I know first hand about manipulation. There is no tolerance for it and I know how to handle myself. I have been a RN for 13 years. I am not fresh out of school with no knowledge of the behaviors that can occur in addictions and many other jobs for that matter. Would any of you have been insulted by this? Maybe I am taking this all too hard, but I am a professional and I know how to conduct myself as a professional. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  10. no, no typo. She stated it 2 times. $12.00 an hour. The program assistants who are like certified nursing assistants get paid $8.25 and they pass food trays, play games with the clients, toilet, shower, etc. The nurse is expected to help with the food trays, pass the medications, toilet, showers, trash, etc. I was told by the administrator that she is making some very drastic changes because this particular site is not up to standards. Not up to standards as far as the facility and pay! I also have applied for another job, and I will need some replies if you all don't mind. I will post it under the addictions forum. Thanks!
  11. I have checked the minimum salary for RN's in this area and it's about $21.00 an hour. That is also the starting wages in LTC which around here usually are the lowest paying employers. No, it's not worth it especially when I have to drive 30 miles there and back, working only 2 days a week and every Saturday. Also I found out that one of their nurses decided not to work as a nurse any longer and he is now a program assistant?? That is very odd. Makes me wonder exactly why he decided to step down from the position.
  12. yes I do consider it a slap in the face. The administrator wants me so badly, yet she says they can only pay $12.00 an hour. Minimum wage is $8.25 and that is what my daughter is making as a waitress in a fast food restaurant, plus she can get tips of up to $100.00 per night. I wouldn't even be making that and my daughter is fresh out of high school. I would be responsible for 30+ individuals health and well being, learn the companies computerized charting system and also help toilet and shower some residents. I don't mind doing things like that, but at $12.00 an hour? No thanks. Thanks for the reply :)
  13. thank you all for your replies. This is a part time no benefits job. I will have to pass medications, give insulin, take out the all trash, supervise program assistants and work every Tuesday and Saturday. I live in a very rural area, but this job wouldn't even put me above the poverty level. I can't even begin to understand how an agency with 5 different offices in the state could pay such low wages. I think I will pass on this "opportunity". Thanks again for all the great advice and help
  14. I was offered a position in an adult day care and what is the wage? $12.00 an hour. I find this insulting. Any one else find this insulting or am I being silly? Thanks :)
