  1. Thank you all for replying! This was a project for nursing school in our final few weeks. Yes I did review about the vaccine online before the season began! Not sure why but I don't recall seeing anything about the H1N1 being included. It was a thought but not a defnite. I know that there are usually 3 vaccines combined into this one the main one being whichever influenza they think is going to be the main concern for the season. Non the less it is still important to educate our patients about what medications they are recieving. It is the patient's responsibility as well to be educated but a nurse has more knowledge and should be implementing teaching for the patient. And no I did not recieve a VIS or have to sign a consent. This is the only place in the area that offers vaccines and I have no other choice. Sorry! I think a few of you should quite thinking it is all the patients responsibility here. You went to school and chose this profession so step up to the plate and do your job!!!!
  2. As a nursing student I am trying to educate myself about medications, vaccinations, procedures, etc. So I was shocked to find out after I had recieved my yearly flu shot that they have combined it with the H1N1 vaccine as well. Going in to get myself and my daughter our shots I thought we were recieving the plain old flu shot but little did I know! After going to clinical that afternoon I was informed by a hospital employee that the shot included the H1N1 vaccine. I was actually kind of upset about this and still am to a certain degree. As a soon to be nurse and a patient in this situation I know it is important to give informed consent which means on behalf of the RN who gave my shot she slacked in her job. She never made me aware or even brought it to my attention. I am wondering how you all feel about this?
