Anyone heard about Louisiana College ABSN program?
Hey, what are you trying to find out?
-
Louisiana College - Alexandria, LA area Off Campus Housing
I have not posted here for a while but am upset about hearing that the Dean left LC in the summer along with most of the nursing faculty. I hope the excellent NCLEX pass rate does not suffer but with most of the excellent faculty who taught our class now gone i am not sure that things will ever be the same. I will keep praying for LC and the nursing program.

Louisiana College Nursing Program's NCLEX pass rates= 60%
Hi - I have been asked by some people about the current ABSN pass rate at LC. I looked up the web site for the Division of Nursing and they have posted that the first 3 cohorts have a 100% pass rate. Three years in a row with all the students who graduated passing NCLEX first time - we started a great trend Here is the link Division of Nursing | Louisiana College Here is the quote: "100% first time pass rate for first three ABSN cohorts" Hope this helps those were asking me.

Sorry, missed out on this site for a while being busy at work and at home. First semester you get into a heap of nursing courses. At first you are in with the Trad BSN students then the ABSN group stay around in the summer to get into their accelerated track. The nursing stuff is pretty hard to get into but if you keep working away at it and keep practicing the skills whenever you can then you get through it OK. The nursing text books are HUGE but the profs tell you what to zero in on. It is hard work getting through a nursing course - but the good news is that it is over in 2 years!

The interview process for ABSN students is usually a group process - a bit nerve wracking but easy enough to get through if you stay cool. The pace of the program is pretty intense - but you expect that in an accelerated program. Four semesters, one after the other. There are some short breaks at Christmas and summer etc but you have to stay focused for pretty much most of the time. I felt very prepared as an RN. Like most of my class I passed the HESI national standardized exam to prepare for NCLEX with a score over 1000 - I believe that that is a really good score for us all to have achieved. Most of us went on to pass NCLEX after taking only 75 questions. Staff in the hospital complimented me on being well prepared for my role as a RN, and told me to pass on their comments to my instructors. I do not know if you can specialize in post partum care - maybe in your final preceptorship experience? Hope this helps.

Yes, I lived in Pineville. Students on the ABSN program usually rent together after getting to know one another and forming a group that can share the rental costs. There are plenty of places available. The job market in Louisiana is good because there is a shortage of nurses. We were chased by the local hospitals to work for them because they are very eager to recruit graduates from the program to work for them, so all of our class had jobs before we graduated.

Louisiana College Accelerated Nursing Program
A friend from work sent me this link to the nursing school website Accelerated B.S.N. Program | Louisiana College [h=5]The ABSN has had considerable success since its launch in 2009. There have been two graduating classes, each with a 100% first time pass rate in the national NCLEX nursing licensure examinations. The success of the program in preparing LC graduates for this exam is demonstrated by 83% of the latest cohort of graduates only requiring the minimum of 75 questions in order to pass the NCLEX exam. The level of professional preparation provided through the ABSN program is outstanding when compared against national standards.[/h]

Hi - as I remember it, the senior clinical were preceptored clinicals focused on "Leadership," getting you used to working as a RN. I enjoyed my leadership clinical and I expect you can request to take them in any area you like. There are two local teaching hospitals that are very good. The leadership classes also concentrated on answering delegation and prioritization questions that play a big part in you passing the NCLEX exam. The classes must be working because I heard that the second class of ABSN who graduated in December 2011 did even better than the first group. I heard that they all passed the NCLEX at the first attempt and only a couple of them took more than the basic 75 questions to pass (someone at work had read it on the LC website). So they must be doing something right now - I felt well prepared for the NCLEX. The program is hard, but I expected that. The teachers were very friendly and prepared us very well. Clinicals can be a bit mixed - depends on where you go but generally the locations selected for you are good. I hope you enjoy being down here in Cajun territory - folks are friendly and the food is great. I know there have been a couple of students recently from California attending LC nursing school - maybe 2 girls and a guy?

Yes we must. I hear that the group who are getting ready ready to graduate also did well on the HESI final exam.

Louisiana College Accelerated Nursing Program
According to The Town Talk (the local newspaper) last week, the first group of accelerated students who graduated in December 2010 passed the NCLEX with a 100% pass rate. There were 17 students who graduated and over half of them managed to pass the NCLEX after taking just 75 questions - the minimum number of questions (out of 265) to be able to take to pass the exam.

Hi - just an update. A friend from the December 2010 graduating class just called me to tell me that she passed the NCLEX exam after taking the minimum of 75 questions. She is delighted because she was not all that strong a student - about the middle of the class. She told me that she talked to 2 other graduates from the the same class who also passed the NCLEX this week after taking just 75 questions. They must be doing something right over at LC - it is getting to be come known as the place to go if you want to pass NCLEX with the minimum number of test questions!

I graduated from LC in summer 2010 and a bunch of people in our class passed NCLEX after only taking 75 questions - and some of them were not the top students in the program. I heard that the first group of ABSN students who were getting ready to graduate at Christmas 2010 had really high scores on the HESI exam - a lot of them scored over 1000 and the national pass mark is set at 850. So things are looking good for that nursing program.

Yeah, sorry you had problems when you were there but things have changed since then. I graduated from LC in summer 2010 and a bunch of people in our class passed NCLEX after only taking 75 questions - and some of them were not the top students in the program. I heard that the latest group getting ready to graduate had really high scores on the HESI exam - a lot of them scored over 1000 and the national pass mark is set at 850. So things are getting a lot better in the nursing program.
