Inspite of all the garbage you deal with on a daily basis. Please dont forget how much you impact peoples lives.I decided to be a nurse because I was a patient first.Im sure there are ungateful patients, but I truly admired the nurses who looked after me.Dont ever think you are not a blessing to your patients.I have put the steps in motion to follow in your footsteps.I hope to one day impact lives as you all do on a daily basis.God Bless You All.

You said your only 19 and alot of them are past their 40's.That made me think of something I used to do with older,hardcase,fellow employees that worked for me.First off im NOT telling you to roll over and play dead or to put up with alot of abuse, but have you tried making them think you value their opinion?Ive always been able to win over even the worse cases this way.Its not always easy to treat someone nice who has treated you poorly but most(not all) people respond to someone who is treating them fair by eventually doing the same.The first thing I get when I treat someone with respect who is slamming me is usually a shocked look.This is always a good sign to me because it means said person dont know what to make of the situation.This might not work for you but its worth a try IMHO.Hope things get better for you.

My niece is a real hoot when she gets surgery.Last time she was in the hospital she kept singing "oh susanna" and getting mad because the Dr.s and nurses wouldnt join in.She also kept telling us she had millions of dollars hid away and what she was going to buy us with it.

I had my wisdom teeth removed several years ago and when I went in for my follow up I heard a girl in the next room howling and barking.I was so shocked and I guess my Dr. noticed because he laughed and said ALOT of the patients do that kind of thing while under.I felt to embarrased:imbar to ask if that included me.:rotfl:

Ive been in the hospital about 7 times in my adult life and always try to be a gracious patient.I always say thank-you ,dont make a fuss if a nurse has to poke me a dozen times to get an IV inserted(my veins are small and this always happens)try not to call unless necessary,ect.So I was SHOCKED:uhoh3: when my daughters,husband,ect told me that when im first coming out of anestesia(sp?) that I have been known to be very different.According to them im grouchy and even swear.I honestly dont remember this at all,and all my nurses seem to like me alright.I feel really bad about this. Do other patients do this when waking up??

Actually I got my books from the person in charge of hiring at the only hospital/LTC unit in our area.She told me that they really need the help and when im ready to take the written test to come and see her.Hopefully she will help me with the skills part.....

It was from Nursing Assistant Central..My situation is a special one though, because there are no classes within 90 miles of me.The instructor sent me home to study on my own.I am wondering how I am going to learn the hands on skills required.I am fairly confident of my knowledge on the written part.The practice tests seemed a little to easy to be accurate though.

Im studying to take the CNA exam and have took a few online practice tests . How do these line up with the actual written exam?Does the written exam actually have some multiple choice questions?

I am currently working towards getting certified as a CNA but what I really want is to be an RN.This may sound really dumb to you guys already there, but what do you need to do to be a registered nurse?Im interested in knowing how much school is involved and how you go about getting started.TIA:)

Wow, though I think a CNA should never refer to her/himself as a nurse they definetly do ALOT of the nursing in my opinion.When my Dad had heart surgery we hardly saw the RN's in charge of him mostly the CNA's and LPN's.If all we had was RN's on that floor I wonder what level of care he would have received.I am hoping one day to be an RN and I have respected the profession since childhood.Kudos to you wonderful RN's out there who respect ALL your valuable helpers and shame on you ones that dont.:uhoh21:

Ive wanted to pursue a career in nursing for several years and thought id start by getting certified as a cna.Im not sure if this is the norm but since I live very rural the hospital I checked into about classes sent me home with books to study for the exam(they are hiring but not giving classes.)Im sure I will do fine on the written exam but am a little nervous about the hands on part.If I pass Im afraid I might be be going into it unprepared for the actual job.Since I will be relying on getting ALL my experience from a book.How do I know if Im right for the job?I will be starting out in a nursing home attatched to the hospital and will work in the hospital when needed.Im excited about this but a little nervous too.Is this normal?
