I am curious if you used the VA NNEI Scholarship? I am currently using the scholarship and worried they will bump me down to Grade 1 Step one on the APN scale when I graduate which is only 2-3k more a year than I make now. Do they have to keep you at the same grade and step and just move to the APN pay scale?

For those who attended a new grad orientation at Forsyth Hospital/Novant, how long after you attended the orientation were you called for an interview? I attended orientation 3 weeks ago, and we were told interviews would take place and then all jobs would be offered Dec 1 and we would have until Dec 10 to accept or decline. I had a couple of nurse managers star my resume, but I have yet to be called to schedule an interview. There were also very few jobs availabe this time. Most sections said they did not have any openings, but would keep our resume on file. Overall it was a very disheartening experience!

I am from the South, and it is true, that most people here do call each other "hun" or "sweetie," but my mother actually brought this up a couple of months ago. She is 48 yrs old and she despises when some 20-something or 30-something calls her "sweetie." She finds it extremely rude and disrespectful. She said she would tolerate it from someone in their 70's or older, but not someone younger than she. While I think that some patients may be ok with it, or even like being called those names, a lot of people find it unprofessional. The patient's name is acceptable all across the country.
