  1. Hi, I am a 3rd semester RN student that will complete my Rn in Dec 2005, my BSN in two more semesters after Dec. I also have a BS in Biology/Chemistry. My prior life was an Software project manager and Protocol Coordinator for a cancer research center in Houston (M.D. Anderson). I absolutely love the research side of nursing and was wondering what people look for in new hires... Would greatly appreaciate any insight... mar:rolleyes:
  2. Hi Corey, Getting a BS is a very smart thing to do.. I plan to do that as well. 90 miles is really not that far.. A good studying strategy is to read your textbook into a tape recorder and play it on the way to school. In the panhandle of OK, distance is pretty standard. It is nothing for people to drive to Amarillo for a shopping trip. It is the closest city and it is 120 miles away. I think if you want something bad enough, you will do what it takes to get there. I hope the gas prices cooperate for you... Good luck and take care.. mary

  4. Hello ThornVa.. That is why I am now living in Goodwell, OK. I was able to get into their nursing school almost right away without a wait. I investigated the Washington State area and there was a 3 year waiting list, and to top it off, I would have had to re-take all of my sciences since they were over 5 yrs old. You really have to shop around and find the best program and what is right for you in the Medical field. I am hoping that I can still utilize my background in IT and provide Nursing care. My golas are Research Nursing and Nurse Practitioner, and to get back to Washington State..

  6. Hi BonemarrowRN.. You are absolutely right. It took quite awhile to reach that level in IT. When it is gone, there is definitely a panic that sets in. But you deal with it. I think that there is soo much potential in the healthcare field, and you have to work at what you do. I get so tired of people thinking that success or money is supposed to be handed to you or that you are entitled to it without working for it. Now that I have vented.... Success it what YOU make out of your life.:) mar
  7. Hi Melly06; My name is Mary Sheldon. I know exactly how you feel!! I was laid off from a very high paying job as a PM in IT in Oct 2002. The IT market has been flooded for awhile. After 3 mths of looking to no avail, I decided to go back to school in Nursing - something that I had wanted to do since I was 16. But I was a single mom raising 3 kids at the time and IT paid much better... I have just completed my first semester of Nursing school. I absolutely LOVE IT. It does take some getting used to being a student again - with little income. But as I was once told by a very dear friend.. - This too will Pass. I think that your background in IT will help you tremendously! I am seeing that there is becoming a big demand for the field of 'Nursing Infromatics'. The nursing shortage is not going to end anytime soon. Advantages are that they are paying top dollar for nurses, you can almost name your price. Also, there is more opportunity to work anywhere that you want. You are not limited to hospitals anymore.. Even though it is hard, I know that for me, it has been the right decision. I hope that helps.. mar
