  1. Sedatetime - Congratulations on securing an interview with a wonderful school! Would you mind sharing your stats or how you have been studying for the interview? I hope to apply there next year. When did you have your application in and who did you get your recommendations from? Are you applying for the Richmond campus? Good luck!
  2. Any previous or current VCU students mind sharing any info regarding the clinical sites, interview, or their stats? Thanks!
  3. JackRT - Yes it is one of the schools to which I have applied. You?
  4. I am in the process of applying to crna schools and have secured 4 interviews - all I can say is based upon my own personal experience so take what I say with a grain of salt. 1. From what I hear from crna's and srna's - the quality of my experience has been the most important part of my application "package," not only as an applicant but as a future anesthesia provider and presently as a bedside nurse. You don't just want to be good on paper - you want to be a great patient advocate. So if you can do it, try to get into an icu and become a sponge - absorb all the information you can. 2. I am not published, most of my coworkers who are applying are not published, and we have all at least received invites to interview. I only know of 2 people that have published and although I have never spoken with anyone on an adcom or investigated further, I don't believe it hurt my application that I have not published. 3. Again, I don't have a prehospital license and neither do any of my coworkers. 4. What about CCRN, studying hard for your GRE, and any other certs that you can obtain that will help your practice as a bedside nurse now as well as "look good" on your app? Hope this helps
  5. We use Precedex for our post AVR's. Usually the pt is on 0.5-0.7 mcg/kg/hr upon arrival to the unit, if not we will maintain the pt on Propofol until the bag arrives from pharmacy and then hang the Precedex and after 20 or 30 minutes stop the propofol. Like another post menitioned, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't - but when it does work I do like it. We titrate the Precedex by 0.2 mcg/kg/hr every 30 min until the pt can follow commands and we can extubate on a continuous infusion rate up to 0.5mcg/kg/hr. Can anyone else elaborate on the alpha 2 agonist properties?
  6. Hello all I have been searching for any information on the University of Scranton/ Wyoming Valley's Nurse Anesthesia program and cannot find any recent posts. Does anyone know anything about this program or interview process? Also, I noticed that this school is not ranked very high on the US News' ranking of Nurse Anesthesia schools. Does anyone know why some schools are ranked higher than others and do these rankings accurately reflect the quality of the school's education and the school's ability to prepare me to become a great anesthesia provider? I read the rankings with a grain of salt as I believe that with anything in life it is our own responsibility to make the best of any opportunity that we are given - whether it is at the number one school of the last ranked school. Thanks in advance for your help!
