  1. thanks for the list...I was wondering the same thing. Good list!
  2. I am not a nurse yet, but I have had a lady partsl delivery and a C section and know for sure I had fundal checks with both.
  3. I am also in La and I checked into that..but if you have to work..or like in my case, I have children at home during the day it is impossible. It is from 7-4 I think they said. Also you HAVE to sign a 2 yr contract to work at Tulane hospital after you graduate.
  4. Yes, I'm still a student...and there is NO WAY to learn what you need to know from a book alone!
  5. I was in the same situation. I have a degree in Education and I am now a stay at home mom of a 1 yr old and 3 yr old. I did find a program that is supposed to be evening...even though clinicals start at 2 and 3 o'clock, but that was the best I could find. There is no way around going to "real" school..classes and clinicals to become an RN that I know of. good luck
  6. HI, I also have a Bachelors degree in something else and I was just accepted to nursing school. Many of your classes should carry over, but you still have to get the BS in nursing before you can move onto the masters.
  7. I have a BA in Education and with that I had about a 3.0. At delgado for the remaining nursing prereqs I took I have about a 3.75. I was told just to try and get A's or at least B's in A&P1 and 2 and micro..that those weigh more heavily than the other pre reqs. Hopefully you did well on the PAX. Did you use the studyguide book?
  8. Good luck! I remember waiting for my results it is an anxious couple of weeks.
  9. Hi, I just got in for Spring. You can get in with less than a 4.0 but try to do well in micro and the two A&P's. Also make sure you take the PAX before august..b/c anyone who takes it after august won't be considered for fall. I took it last October and got in for Spring.
  10. I'm sure some people do think that. Just like what people think about teaching...that it isn't that much work..which is WRONG. I am a teacher and it is a lot of work for very little money. I guess unless you are actually involved in something you don't really know what it consists of. My aunt was a Labor and Delivery, PP , nursery and NICU nurse. I have heard all about it from her! I also volunteered in a hospital for about 5 years before I started college the first time. I have had 2 children and have tried to make it to every birth in my family..which is MANY..lol. I think of course there will be some things I'll be surprised about and of course A LOT I dont' know yet, but I do have a pretty good idea of what to expect. As of now L&D or post partum are really the only areas I think I'd be really happy in. It is somewhat discouraging though to see ads that all require experience that you can't get unless someone gives you an opportunity. I guess I have 2 more years to go before I have to cross that bridge though:). thanks for all the advice everyone!
  11. Thank you to everyone for your responses. I was getting a little discouraged seeing all these job openings that require experience. thanks
  12. HI, I was just accepted into nursing school and have always wanted to work labor and delivery. My question is how did you all get into L&D when all positions open seem to require a year of L&D experience. thanks for you answers!
  13. Oh good someone else for evening :rotfl: ! Where do you live? I'm on the northshore. Do you know any details about the program? I picked up a fall bulletin yesterday and it looks like semester 3 classes start at 1 and 2 o'clock! i thought it was all in the evening. anyway Congrats!:balloons:
  14. I got my letter today I'm in for Spring. Is anyone else doing the evening program Spring 06?????
  15. Hi, Just wanted to pass along that I know of two people who got their acceptance letters today for spring 06.
  16. My children are 3 and 1. I don't have them in daycare or school so I can only take classes at night. My husband is an engineer and I am lucky that he makes enough money that I don't have to work. I have been considering putting nursing school off until my kids are in school so that I can go during the day instead of at night. I stopped teaching to be home with them and it would defeat my purpose to then put them in daycare to go to school. I wish you lots of luck with school and your family! Did you apply to the day or evening program?
  17. In my opinion anything extra you know going in will give you an "edge up". I have 2 small children so I really don't have time to do anything extra, but I'm sure it will be helpful for you. I already have a degree in education and decided to give up teaching to try nursing. I have taken all my pre reqs except micro ..which I am taking over the summer. I hope to hear something soon! I will post to you if I hear anything from the other people I know who applied.
  18. I was wondering the same thing. I heard that last year people got them right around Memorial Day...but I haven't heard anything or know of anyone who has for this year.
  19. I have 2 children and I don't want to put them in daycare to go. I guess I will wait and see if I get accepted for Spring 06 and go from there. It would be alot better scenario to be going during the day though. I've heard there is still a waiting list for that garage. When are you going to start?
  20. I completely agree with you about the area. I live on the northshore and hope to start next spring. I will be going at night..and the area is one reason I am having second thoughts!
  21. HI everyone, I applied to Charity for Spring 06 and was just curious...does anyone know how many are accepted per class? It just seems like there are so many people applying and expecting to start soon! thanks for any input!:)
  22. you are lucky to be able to drop any! We don't get to drop any and in lecture only have a midterm and final...and quizzes. i took my lecture midterm yesterday and got a 96 i have my lab midterm tomorrow...i hope i do as well ...or at least close. good luck to everyone....just a little longer til spring break!!
  23. I had my first lab practical last thursday. i got a 95.5. So I am happy with that. Although i am dreading my lecture test!!! All we have is a midterm and a final..and quizzes. It seems like so much information for just one test. Does anyone else have a class like that ..just a midterm and final?
  24. I just bought the review book they sell at the bookstore. I really didn't prepare as much as I could or should have but I passed. It had a lot of stuff that I did in school quite a while ago, but the review book did help some. Nursing is my second career also. I hope to get in for January!! good luck
  25. In a&p2? we did all of that pretty early on in A&p 1. We are doing the endocrine system and about ot move onto Blood. Does anybody else find the endocrine system kind of confusing with all the functions, stimulations and inhibitions of EVERY hormone???:uhoh21:
