  1. Thank you everyone!!! I got the job!!!! I'm so happy, and I got good reviews from my professor saying that they were very impressed with my interview :) so happy! haha thanks for the laughs too lol
  2. well I asked specifically if post-op patients come to the floor with a RN and they said yes, and I did say I would check the patient with chest heaviness first. I said the SOB was a primary concern but if they were just coming and they had the nurse with them I would go to the chest heaviness and then give pain meds and then go to the post-op nurse to get report, I'm not sure if deferring to the RN bringing the patient to the floor is a good idea.... ......anyway thank for your input, much appreciated!!
  3. so i should have said the patient coming from the recovery? they said that pt would have a nurse with them...oh well i guess send my thank you notes out and hope for the best
  4. Hi Everyone, I just came back from an interview and realized that I answered an important prioritizing question wrong in my interview. My professor for my coronary care course helped me in getting the interview and I am going to see him for class tonight, he was supposed to be on the interview panel but he had to leave for something so I was interviewed by his 2 colleagues. Any ideas on how I can rectify the situation? The Question was: You have 4 patients and all at the same time 1) Calls for pain medication 2) States he's dizzy and has a heaviness feeling in his chest area 3) a new patient coming from the operating room states he's having SOB 4) A family member won't leave the nurses station until they get an update about a patient. I said I would see the patient who is dizzy and has a heaviness feeling in his chest. But what I really should have said was I would give pain medication as pain is the 6th vital sign. I was so nervous but I answered confidently and I feel the rest of the interview went well, and I know they were impressed with my resume. Any ideas?
  5. Thank you for your suggestions. I really appreciate it. Will try and find an employment lawyer to take a look. :)
  6. Thank you for replying. Now I have gotten the job offer and it is not exactly what I was thinking. The contract states that they will give me a $10,000 signing bonus upfront, and if my contract ends earlier then I would owe them money back. Also they would pay up to $3000 relocation costs, but if the contract ends earlier than 2 years then I would owe them money back. Does anyone have any job negotiation experience? I would really love to go, and after thinking about it for a while I am prepared to commit to a one year contract. I'm not sure how to approach this situation with the recruiter, any suggestions would help. Thank you.
  7. Hello everyone! I am a newly graduated nurse, I took my CRNE in October and passed. I'm currently working at a chronic care and rehab hospital here in Toronto. My final placement through York was at this hospital as well, so I did my final consolidation in Complex Continuing Care. I found a part-time job as an Registered Nurse after school, but it's not exactly where I would like to be. I am craving Acute care experience! I know that the job market is not that great right now, so I've been applying everywhere. I recently got a job offer that is 6 hours north of here. My new graduate funding doesn't run out until April. So my question is because there are not a lot of jobs and because of my limited experience, should I just move? I'm not really sure what to do...just writing this post to see what others think I should do...
  8. We've got one from Ontario too, loyal posted that her friend from Mississauga got her results and she passed!
  9. Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone is interested in doing this Forensic Health Science Certificate at Seneca? I'm trying to do this certificate and it doesn't seem like there is much interest or maybe not enough people know about it. I'm trying to take the first course which runs very soon, it's over two weekends November 12, 13, 14 and November 25, 26, 27 2010. Is anyone interested? I think they need 4 more people to register to have this course run (FHS 560). There are only 6 courses needed to be completed to receive the certificate. Here is a description from the website: "This program will assist health care and law enforcement professionals to develop expertise in their practice. They are often involved in situations where they are required to assess and provide professional assistance to victims of crime. As a result of advances in forensic science, it has become necessary for providers of health care services to incorporate forensic principles into their practices in order to ensure that not only is the client receiving a high standard of care, but also that forensic evidence is appropriately documented and preserved for subsequent legal proceedings." and the courses are To obtain the certificate, six courses must be completed. Two mandatory courses (FHS560 and FHS561) plus four out of the five elective courses.
