  1. I had the interview this morning so I dont have any results yet. I did NOT talk about my addiction and suspended license. i will tell them if/when i got the job. As far as the interview and even the application, im lucky becuz it mever came up. If it had come up my plan was to say I left for personal reasons, which isn't really lying, in my opinion at least. when/if they offer the job, I will tell them cuz at that point we are covered by ADA!!! Hopefully it doesn't bite me in the orifice. I'm considering it practice at least. I pray all day long. Gods will right? I'm sure you understand how defeating and stressful it is. Self esteem destroyer and scares me that I'll never get another job. Try the personal issues thing. That's what my case manager recommended. It won't hurt I guess. Good luck and let me know how its going! I'll post how the rest of this thing works. I at least have some hope now!
  2. Thanks for the encouragement! Self confidence is hard to get back when I thought I'd never have my license back let alone have an interview! I will do my best and hopefully I'll have good news soon! Gods will, not my will
  3. Thank you so much!! I guess I'll feel it out and keep my fingers crossed.....
  4. Thanks for replying! They do not ask about constrictions or limited licenses. The only thing they ask is: * Have you ever been convicted, pleaded guilty or nolo contendere to a petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor or felony? If yes, please disclose any and all convictions, pleas of guilty or pleas of nolo contendere. I have no crimes of any kind, including any diversion related things. I was lucky I guess.
  5. Hello Everyone! I have my first job interview after having my license suspended in 2007 and reinstated in 2010. I've been clean and sober for 3+ years and am currently being monitored by the state of MInnesota monitoring program (with the screens, doctors reports, etc.) My interview is on Tuesday for a generic med surg position and obviously I want the job. I'm concerned about when is the appropriate time to tell them I'm an addict. I'm not positive if there is one or two interviews but I am thinking there is only one. I have heard conflicting ideas as far as when I tell them. One opinion is that I tell them in the first interview (which scares me), and the other idea I've heard is to tell them AFTER they offer the job, because then you are covered under ADA. Any ideas? Thanks so much!
  6. Hey all~ I'm looking for some advice on a frustrating situation that recently happened to me! I currently hold a 'limited' RN license in the state of Minnesota due to drug diversion in 2006/2007. My license was suspended, etc and I got it back November 2010. I have no criminal record and am authorized to provide direct patient care. I've looked for jobs and am having a tough time, gave up for a while and learned through this forum that volunteering can be really helpful so I can have "recent" experience. I have been clean and sober for 3+ years and am currently being monitored by our state rehabilitation program. I obtained a great volunteer job at Planned Parenthood (I use their name because it is a complicated non-profit company and I'm sure has specific laws that apply to the small number of places like them). Anyways, it was a nursing volunteer job at their clinic and on my first day I was very up front both with the nurse training me and with the clinic manager regarding my restriction and that I could not come into contact with narcs, etc. (not that I would as a volunteer of course)... The day after I did my shift, I received a phone call from the volunteer manager that I couldn't work in the clinic because of what came up on my license check, which she then snarked that she hoped I knew about it.... So against the clinic managers wishes, I was "fired" from volunteering by the volunteer manager because i was an addict at some point in my career. I didn't fight her on it, but was thinking that since ADA applies to employed RN's with addiction problems, would it apply to volunteers? From the small amount of research I've done on the ADA website, it looks like I might be covered by ADA because PP receives grants from the Federal government, forcing them to treat volunteers as if they were employees when it comes to the American Disabilities Act. The only clause I could see as a potential problem would be that the grants they receive DO NOT get allocated to the abortion clinics and instead go to preventive health, publicity etc, as mandated by law. Anyone have any ideas on if I would be covered? I really want this volunteer experience and am very discouraged about volunteering and definitely about finding a job since I was treated this way even when I wasn't hiding anything. Its not worth getting a lawyer over but I wanna fight it if I've been legally wronged. Any ideas or advice would be awesome! Thanks so much!
  7. WOW, thank you! Very enlightening and helpful! Gives me more hope of a second chance! Thanks again
  8. Hey Everyone!! I am a RN who has been in recovery for over 2 years and just had my license reinstated after 3 years of suspension. I currently have a restricted license and am not permitted to handle controlled medications. I am currently looking for work, which is hard to find even if you have no restrictions! I was reading a thread on this website a while ago and one of the threads was about when to tell your interviewer that you have restrictions on your license. The ideas were: during interview and after interview when the job has actually been offerred. This RN eluded to the fact that if you tell them after, they still have to hire you because addiction can be considered a disability??? I guess I'm not sure if this is accurate and it seems like an easy method to get the job, although it sounds fishy and improbable to me. Any experience with this? Please help!
