Hi boke. I too am waiting on the letter for U of I. My advisor told me that the minimum GPA that they accepted last year for ASN was 3.1 and for BSN it was 3.2. Of course this year, rumor has it, they have a record number of applicants so who knows. I have a 3.72 GPA in the pre-reqs so I'm hoping that will fit the bill. What GPA do you have?

Good job with the books! You will probably be fine with the A&P book. We have to take the Kaplan Nursing Admittance Exam before the application process (which I believe you have to do before April 1st). I have the study book and I'm already studying it! Hehe. (if you want a good cheap study guide get it from Barnes & Noble...it was on sale for $11.99 not long ago!) I plan on taking it in March. I'm in Indy. It's great because I only live 15 minutes from campus and my child's daycare is right across the street. :) Columbus is a haul but it's so worth it to go to a good school. May we have a mild winter so you don't have to have bad driving weather!! Isn't it the Physiology classes that are at night? I was bummed to have to be there so late but at least it seems like a very safe campus. Good luck to you too and may we both be in clinicals in the Fall!! :)

Hi there fellow inspiring U of I student! :) I too am starting in the spring and we are taking the exact same classes! I got my books through Barnes & Noble.com because the bookstore prices are insane. I still got new books due to being leary of not having all the right things but it was still almost half what it would have been through the bookstore. Order soon though because some of the books may be on backorder! My math book came Friday and my A&P book is due to arrive on Tues. Good luck to the both of us for making it into clinicals in August 2012!!!

It's definitely not the TEAS. The old school that I was attending did give the TEAS but U of I does the Kaplan or some version of it. This is the thing I can't get a straight answer from the college on. So, from what I'm gathering, there is only one Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam?? There aren't any different names for it? If that is the case, I have seen a type of Kaplan study guide that's around $20 and I'm assuming that this is the right one.

Is there more than one study guide for the Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam? I cannot find anyone that will give me a direct answer from the college. I would like to get a leg up on studying but don't know if I should look for a certain guide or just a generic one. Any advice??

Recently, my hubby asked me what I wished I would have done with my career path if I would have had a chance to do it over. I told him that I wished I had become a nurse. I have spent years in the medical field (both human and animal) as a medical assistant, vet assistant or (currently) secretary...but never doing what I really wanted. I have a decent job now and I make ok money for what I do, but it's never been enough for me mentally. My wonderful hubby told me that I should follow my passion, quit my job and go back to school full time. I was so thrilled that I may finally get to become the nurse I always wanted to be. Now I'm not so sure. I always thought there were jobs out there for nurses..I guess I fell for the whole 'nursing shortage' thing like everyone else. Now after reading all these forums, I'm realizing the the chances for a new graduate are slim to none. It's so sad and discouraging. How could I put my family through me not having a job (losing my income plus gaining debt) and not even achieving the goal I had set out for? I don't hate my current job and quitting to go back to school full time scares me alot, especially in this horrible economy. But knowing that I didn't even TRY to achieve something that would fulfill me and definitely make more money for my family in the long run also scares me. *sigh* I guess I'm just sadly venting... but I will take any advice anyone wants to give.
