Is there/should there be a gay/lesbian nurses association?
You can joke all day about making up new names for associations that mean nothing. Just think about who you are offending. I just finished school and have not started my job yet. It scares me to think that the work place could be filled with such ignorance about social issues like these. I previoulsy worked in another service industry for 15 years and never faced the type of attitude that is comming accross in some of these posts. What scares me even more is that I may have to be closited at work. And that is really crummy. I've been out for 7 years now and never looked back at the closet until now. Isn't nursing suposed to be non-judgemental based on cultrual backgrounds. Guess what being gay/lesbian/bi/trans is part of a different culture. Lets be a bit more understanding here. Go back and check out what "rocknurse" has posted. Those are the points that he has made are what is on the forefront of medical issues in our sub-culture. I would hate to think what I would have to do if I was denied the ability to know what was hapening to my partener if he was sick. These groups are not designed to seperate but to bring together a goup of people that may feel alienated in a place where we are suposed to feel comfortable. Please folks just youse your minds constructively and not hate.

I really don't see how this will devide people. Sure it is just another catagory among all of the nurses out there but it may get some people who have not felt comfortable to challenge or make changes in our profession. It should not matter if you are gay or not but the fact of the matter is that it just gives another avenue for people to make change. And change is a good thing . . . right? And who says that these organizations can't work in conjunction other nursing organizations like say latino nurses organizations, public health organizatoins or hospice nursing. Another point that these groups may or possibly do is promote good health practices among a group of our society that needs a little guideance. It is a sad fact but the percentage of HIV infectged younger gay men is on the rise. Shocking but true. And no they don't deserve it. Just because a new group may be starting or may already exist doesn't mean that it will devide people who knows it may bring all of us closer together. Gay people have had lots to deal with in their lives already and why not provide an organization that makes them feel a part of something.

How are you studying?
I did almost 1500 ?'s from Mosby's and Lippincott's. I don't think that I could have done anyting else to prepare. All I can say is that it was really hard. I just don't think there was really one right answer on most of the ?'s. The test turned off after 75?'s and all I can do now is wait. You know we are all in school for 2 years and if that can't prepare us for the NCLEX I don't know what can. Good luck everyone!! You CAN do it. :)

Anyone in NC recently taken the NCLEX?
Go to the NC BON web site and search for license numbers. There is an area where you can type in your SS# and if a license number appears you passed.
