Having trouble deciding which accelerated program to attend: Drexel University, Duque
JDU4 and Latin Dancer, Thank you for your help! My main concerns about Drexel are definantly the program length and the class size. I've read mixed feelings about Altoona's program, although I have seen a lot more positive comments lately, so hopefully the kinks of the new program are worked out! I did decline PSU Altoona. I had a completely different experience with Dr. Kuhn, although I never met with her in person, which I am sure makes a big difference. Robert Morris is looking promising for me, and is my top choice, so I am excited to get started. Good Luck to both of you and thank you for your input! I apologize for the slow response.

jajas- I'm assuming your interview is with Anne? She is so super nice and you have nothing to worry about. I would say 90% of the interview is her telling you about the program and the two of you going over what needs to be done before you begin the program. You have no reason to be nervous. I will be attending the program as long as I get the prereqs completed so maybe I will see you in the fall! The program really impressed me and the people there are great. Not to mention, I am more comfortable with the location and the program length compared to that of Drexel's. Good Luck

PSU Altoona Second Degree Program
Thank you. I decided to decline my offer to Altoona. I received an offer from Robert Morris so, I'm deciding between Drexel and Robert Morris. I will be attending Robert Morris as long as I can get a few missing prereqs completed. Altoona told me they substituted my Chemistry for microbiology. That's about the only question they could answer after a 7 day response time. The email was full of typos and was just generally not informative. If I had chosen Altoona, I would be smart enough to take the microbiology despite it not being required (since it may have come back to bite me later when applying to master's programs). It seemed to me that they were not looking out for my best interest as a future student or nurse. Robert Morris has been my top choice since I visited the school, so I think I will be happy with my choice. Anyways, I hope you have a better experience and enjoy Penn State. I went to University Park for my undergrad and my former boss from my college job told me he knew students who were successful in Altoona's program and enjoyed it. Hopefully, someone can answer my questions for your benefit. Congrats and Good Luck to you also!

Having trouble deciding which accelerated program to attend: Drexel University, Duque
Hello - I am in a very similar situation. I was accepted to Drexel's ACE program in December they gave me a deadline extension until the end of February. I paid my enrollment fee last week however I am still unsure. Just the other day I was admitted to PSU altoona's program. I completed my bachelors at University Park and love Penn State dearly. However, I am so far shocked with the lack of information and help I have received from the Altoona nursing admissions staff. I am also confused because they seem to be waiving or looking over some of my prereqs (micro!) for some reason. If I were to attend the program, I would still take micro over the summer. I know better from applying to other graduate programs in the past. (If I were to go on in nursing to get a masters I'm sure not having micro would be a problem) Anyways, my concern about Drexel is that I hear the program is extremely difficult. I know all of these programs will be difficult; however, I've read that many people drop out/fail. It's done over 11 months so you take 21-25 credits/semester. I have an interview at Robert Morris on Wednesday. This program is likely my top choice; however, there may be issue with completing my prereqs. I'm unsure what to tell Penn State Altoona. I have to make a decision by March 4th - very soon. Some of the stories on here that are consistent with my experiences so far concern me.

PSU Altoona Second Degree Program
Hi everyone - I also was recently accepted for fall 2011. I am very confused about a few things. First of all, it is very obvious that I am missing a few prereqs. Example, I have never taken a course even close to microbiology. I had planned on taking it this summer. When I saw that prereqs had to be completed by the end of the spring semester I emailed Suzzane and asked her what exactly transferred and what did not. She told me that I only need to complete the HDFS course I am currently enrolled in. I'm enrolled in a Development Psych course at community college right now, I"m assuming that is what she means. I don't understand how they could waive some of the prereqs I did not complete. It doesn't make sense. Not to mention, a few months ago she called me saying that my anatomy course did not transfer and that I needed Developmental Psych and Ethics. I don't understand why I don't need them anymore. Certainly, it would be nice to not have to take these courses but something seems wrong about all of this. For students currently in the program - How professional is the program? Everyone I talk to seems to have no idea what they are doing. I already have submitted my deposit for Drexel's program but have my concerns about that program also. I went to Penn State UP for my undergraduate work and it was nothing like this. I know the program is new and they are still working out kinks but it all seems very unorganized. When I emailed Suzzane my concerns she replied with 1 sentence and then asked if I was accepting my offer. I just received my letter 2 days ago. It seemed pushy and unprofessional. The letter says I have until the 4th of March to accept, which isn't much time to begin with. Other schools have given up to 2 months. Anyone else have concerns or similar experiences? Also, I was surprised there was not any information with the acceptance letter - no tuition details, no housing options, nothing about the program. I would really like to hear some good things about the program from current students. Do you feel the program is adequately preparing you to be a nurse?

Drexel University ACE Program Fall 2011 Start
Just received my transfer credit evaluation form and I was a bit surprised- First of all, they did accept my social psychology for sociology :) They did not take my ethics of movement course for the ethics requirement (I wasn't sure if they would) and they didn't accept my anatomy course! It was a human anatomy course through the Kinesiology department. I wonder if they want it through a biology department? If so, all it said on the website was that it had to be a human anatomy course Should I send them an email asking about it?

I also got accepted! :) Just checked the drexel portal. They must have posted sometime this afternoon for those who asked about stats: I have a BS in Kinesiology from Penn State University (University Park) with a 3.3 overall GPA. My prereq GPA was also around a 3.2-3.3.

Drexel University ACE Program Fall 2011 Start
I would think this would be because you are missing some key prereqs - Anatomy and physiology, micro, chem - those are the ones that would bring most applicant's prereq GPA down (not that you won't do good in them!) I don't know why else they would do that because your prereq GPA is great. Do they know you withdrew from chem? That could also be why they are holding your app I'm missing sociology, developmental psych, and micro - mine still says under review, but I'll let you know if it changes. I do have a psych minor and did really well in all my psych courses (including social psych) so maybe they will consider that - not substitute, but maybe realize I have done well in classes similar to the ones I'm missing. However, I don't think they will put a hold on mine, if anything, they would probably just deny me, because I'm taking my missing prereqs in the spring, not the fall. My company will pay for them then I have an interview at Desales December 11th - I made it for the last weekend available because I am hoping to hear from Drexel before then (I don't live near phili)

I don't think the instant decision is for nursing - here is the info on it and at the bottom ACE nursing is listed as one of the ineligible programs Transfer Instant Decision Days | Undergraduate Admissions | Drexel University

I have a BS in Kinesiology from Penn State; 3.3 overall, about 3.2 prereq. I have to take Microbio, developmental psych, and sociology. I'm assuming they won't take social psychology for sociology since it says on their site that they don't substitute courses and I'm hoping my anatomy class is okay since it was through the kines department. I hope they tell us soon so I can plan for spring accordingly. Has anyone taken a good online developmental psych course? I've been considering taking it online. Also, has anyone spoken to the admissions department lately/since Nov 1st? Good luck everyone!
