  1. Thank you for this information. I am going to submit the application!!
  2. Hi all! I am a newly graduated NP awaiting my AANP exam date of June 20th!!! Do I have to wait until I take and pass the exam to apply for licensure and furnishing license?? My school is considered an out of state school so the certification is a requirement to practice in the state, but I wasn't sure if I could start the process beforehand. Thanks! Kelly
  3. Thank you so much for responding. I am researching all my options, and did not take into account the hidden taxes. I am so excited to start my new career, but the business side of this is a bit daunting.
  4. Hi everyone. I am graduating in 1 month with my MSN-FNP and have started searching for my future job. I have plans to work for a surgeon in the office and as a surgical assistant. My question is it better to work as an employee of the practice or as an independent contractor as part of an LLC? The physician that I am leaning towards asked me my preference and I really don't know the benefits or cons of each way. Thanks in advance!
  5. I agree completely!! I am 2 1/2 years into my online FNP program and will graduate in May '17! I feel that I have been challenged and pushed the entire time, my program has not been "fluff" or easy and am proud of the work I have had to put into my studies. I absolutely believe that I will be as good of an NP as a b & m graduate!!
  6. I know that the MSN-FNP program is accredited but not the post masters certificate FNP as of yet. As long as you are going for the MSN thru them first you are good. I live in California and checked with the Board of Nursing before I applied and was told that yes, a degree with FNP certification from Kaplan is acceptable. So far all quizes have been online from home. I will gladly stay in touch :) my email is [email protected]!!
  7. I am about 1/2 way thru my first class at Kaplan and I have been very impressed with the professionalism and way the class has been run. It's not a cake walk, I have had to put effort in the assignments and there is specific requirements to meet for attendance and good grades. I know that there is a whole lot of bad talk about Kaplan out there, but every school is what you make of it, and I am very pleased thus far with Kaplan! I have also had nothing but help from the administrative side of the school and if i have questions, I call and they always answer the phone and my questions. I can't go to a traditional brick and mortar school at this point in my life with a full-time job, husband and two young boys, so online is the only option I have to get my FNP. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
  8. Yes I am!! And I am so very excited and can't wait to start!! How about you??
  9. Welcome to the group, I have a question for as a fellow RNFA. I have been an OR nurse for almost 20 years and an RNFA for the last 6, I am getting ready to start my NP program in October and was wondering if it is better to go for FNP or ACNP if I plan to stay in the OR arena. I also work as part of an open heart team and would like ideally to remain on that service once I finish. Any input you have would be wonderful! thank you!
  10. There are several start dates throughout the year, the next session starts October 15! Good Luck!
  11. Fantastic information!! Thank you so much for taking the time to give us all this!!
  12. I too am considering Kaplan for the MSN-FNP program. I did my research and you can work in CA as an FNP with a degee and cert from Kaplan and believe that any and all of the online programs have pros and cons and are what you make of them. I am a full time OR nurse with a husband and 2 small children. I am aware that I will have to sacrifice things to complete the program but I am fully ready to take the challenge. As for finding clinical preceptorships, I am in agreement with others on this site that have pointed out that you need good connections. I am starting classes Oct 15 and am already looking to solidify a preceptorship even though its a ways away. I would love to connect with other students in the program from the Southern California region. Good luck to all.
