  1. Here is a link for future use to report things like this. https://www.aanp.org/about/about-the-american-association-of-nurse-practitioners-aanp/media/reportnow?fbclid=IwAR0PONDGSsFuF1bO3hwF7sPY5MrlcX1baHhM0esLIhyRhEem1spXKWwOrI4
  2. maeb, You might want to look into Eastern Kentucky University. They have the PMHNP track and is completely online.
  3. I looked back at my emails from last year and I received a couple over two days so if the first one didnt have instructions then maybe tomorrow you will receive more. No worries, they wont forget about you. You cant sign up for classes right away anyway. :)
  4. What did the email say? I can look back for my initial email to be sure but I think the first step was to set up an EKU Direct account and once that is done you can set up your email account and maybe Blackboard account as well. The email should have come with a sort of welcome packet of info but maybe they dont send it until you set up your email. If there were no other instructions other than a congratulations, the other stuff might come at a later date. Otherwise give them a call. Everyone has been very helpful as far as advisors and admissions.
  5. Take you perquisites and when you are almost done then apply to nursing school. This will get you in the swing of going back to school while having kids and will give your kids more time to get further along in school. When you are accepted into nursing school you can put all of your focus on the core nursing classes and not have to worry about also juggling the prereqs. These are the vital classes if you plan to get your associates degree and then maybe go on to your bachelors. The bachelors degree is very easy just time consuming at times. If your local program is a bachelors program only I would still do it. Start now, seriously .....go sign up for classes now. Time is ticking. Don't overload yourself right now but get going so when your kids are a little older you can dive into the nursing classes. When your kids are adults you will have a full career and will be at the point of thinking about going back for your masters degree. Go sign up for your Fall prerequisites right now. You seem to want this but are a little afraid, so was I. Just do it and move forward. If you hate it you will find out quickly and it wont be wasted classes or time, the result will be you will not live with the regret of "what if". Go. And thank me later.
  6. Eastern Kentucky University is 100% online. No campus visits required. Several different programs to choose from.
  7. It has been a few years since I worked in an office and had forgotten about the ridiculous flirting with the doctors or PAs. They taught me to not take them seriously.
  8. Such good advice, I couldn't agree more. I do this along with a lot of rewriting notes and making lists or putting notes in colorful diagrams or outlines. It is not so much the act of having another material to review but the act of writing the notes, diagrams or whatever that helps to solidify material in my head.
  9. Have you signed up for this class yet? I will also be taking this class this summer but have not sent in my photo ID in order to be allowed to sign up for the class. I will be doing this by the end of the week. Hopefully they will then release the textbook list or have you experienced something different?
  10. When you say "new grad RN program" does that mean something equivalent to continued training/orientation for people who have recently graduated from nursing school in place of just applying to a specific job opening within the hospital? I have more to say but wanted to make sure that was what you were referring to first.
  11. They are looking for illegal drug use, so any illegal drugs that show up meaning street drugs or prescription drugs that you don't have a script for.
  12. Congratulations!! And thanks for the tips.
  13. You have received some good feedback from other replies, but I have to stress the importance of meeting with his treatment team before he is discharged if he is agreeable. This allows for you to let him know how you feel in general and how you feel about him. It is also a time to set firm boundaries that are to be followed once he is discharged. These boundaries let him know what you expect from him in order to have him in your home or in your life. If medication is ordered and is helping him deal with his issues then one boundary is that he continue with his meds once he is released and he must not stop taking them or change the dose unless he and his doctor are agreeable. If substance use is an issue, you must say no substances in the home or he must leave. Or any rules that apply to his situation, make sense? He is the one that has to do the work to get and stay healthy and hopefully he will welcome your support but it is a gift to make him aware of your boundaries and expectations as well........and then stick to them. I would be happy to walk through this with you if you want to PM me.
  14. KF28, I have some similar experience to yours on the inpatient unit. I worked oncology for a couple of years then switched to an adult inpatient behavioral health unit for 6 years. I am currently working within the court system with adults that have a mental illness or are dual diagnosis. I have been at this position for just over 6 years. I was initially worried because I have been out of the traditional clinical setting for a while now, but I have honestly learned so much in the past 6 years. I have heard they weigh the goal statement fairly heavily but I have not spoken to anyone at the school about that. I chose them because I had heard good things initially, then I looked a little deeper and found they have high pass rates on certifying exams, their online nursing programs are rated # 18 in the country, the cost of tuition was no where near as high as the schools local to me and I found the staff I have interacted with to be helpful, interested in helping me when I needed assistance or had questions. I also emailed or messaged a couple of current students to get their input and it was all positive.
