CRNA'S in the USPHS, are there any? Also have a GS retirement question.
Thank you so much for that information WTBCRNA! I suspected Gallup was one of them but was not sure. Thank you so much for the list of clinical sites too, that is extremely helpful. I will attempt to get in contact with both of the facilities to chat with them. Thanks again for the fast response! -Etherwannabe

CRNA'S in the USPHS, are there any? Also have a GS retirement question.
WTBCRNA, Could I ask what NM IHS hospitals those two CRNA's worked at? I am currently a Navy Nurse on the west coast and am considering making the move to the USPHS but would like know which IHS facilities have the larger ICUs. I see about two facilities in NM that seem to have a larger patient population. I am looking to go the CRNA route as well possibly through the USPHS program. I understand they do the majority of their clinicals in Alaska. Thanks! -Etherwannabe

Thank you very much for the reply annabeap! You don't by chance know the names of the apartment complex that is on Rosecrans and Laning Rd do you? I wish I could do the military housing but unfortunately I am not married yet or have a child. Thank you for the good info in some areas to look in. Info on apts/condos in San Diego, CA - Navy Nurse
Hi everyone! I was curious if there were any Navy Nurse Corps Officers on here that lived in San Diego and could recommend some apartment or condo properties for me to check out when I get there at the end of August. I go to ODS next week and will arrive in San Diego the last week of August and a little overwhelmed right now with looking at the choices of rental properties on the internet and such. Is there any recommendations that you all might be able to give me? I am looking for a 2BR/2BA as it will be myself and my girlfriend that will be moving out there. Prefer something in my BAH but I am flexible with that. Any help is greatly appreciated!! I am so excited to be working at the Naval Medical Center out there! -Etherwananbe

Question about ODS and Ultimate Duty Station - Navy Nurse Corps
Hi everyone, I am attending ODS on July 18th and will graduate from there on August 20th. I have been told a different information by different people. After ODS is done will I be able to fly back home to get my vehicle or does ODS arrange a flight directly to my ultimate duty station, which is San Diego Medical Center? I was under the impression that I could run home first but then I was just told by my administrative detailer that ODS will fly me directly to my first duty station. Does anyone know for sure what happens right after ODS? My orders say I need to report to my first duty station by the last day in August. Any information would be very helpful! Communication at this stage and getting a consistent answer has been difficult. Thank you so much! -Shaun D. OC-1/ENS

Navy Nurse Candidate Program- Any 2010 Grads?
Yes nice to know someone else as well! Knowing someone else going into the unknown is always great! I was in contact with my detailer a few weeks back and he was able to tell me the date I leave for ODS and where my first duty station was. San Diego was definitely number one on my list. I hope you are able to get SD as well! Let us know when you find out your date and station! Maybe shoot a email to your detailer, they should know by now where you are going. I haven't received my written orders yet though that should be coming here very soon. -Shaun

Navy Nurse Candidate Program- Any 2010 Grads?
Hi meg314, I am in the NCP program and will be graduating in May of 2010 as well. I have been in the program since June of '08. I found out that I will be leaving for ODS on July 15th. This gives me about 2 months to study and take my boards. I also found out at the same time that San Diego will be my first duty station. From what I understand orders should be sent out this month or at least your detailer should know this month where and when you leave. I am very excited to begin this journey! -Shaun

Etherwannbe here's your answer
LCDR Dan, Thank you much for posting this, sorry about the full inbox. Need more space :) Basically I wanted to ask him what departments he worked in before he was accepted to the Navy CRNA program and for how long. If he took any additional duties on or volunteered for any deployments to make his application look better. And if he took any graduate classes to help his application. Lastly, would he recommend to a new grad that has CRNA as a goal in the future to go the Navy route like he did. Sorry hopefully that's not too many questions! I don't mind just talking to him through email too, I'm sure he is very busy. I really appreciate you helping me out LCDR Dan. I am in talks with a Medical Programs Recruiter for the Navy right now as well so just trying to get everyone's opinion, especially those that do not have a vested interest in the recruiting side. Thanks again! -Shaun

ICU Comparisons
Thanks for the info! I just wanted to be sure that I would acquire the necessary experience in an Army ICU so that I could go on to the Army's CRNA program. Currently doing pre-req's for my University's BSN program. Hopefully be done soon! Thanks again! -Shaun

ICU Comparisons
I was just curious if anyone could comment on the types of things you would see in a busy Level 1 Trauma centers CVICU compared to a Military Hospital's CVICU or ICU in general. I am seriously considering doing Army ROTC and want to make sure I will still get sufficient amount of experiences working in critical care in a military hospital, specifically Army compared to a busy civilian CVICU. My ultimate goal is to become a CRNA. Any comments would be appreciated. Or if I need to be more specific please let me know. Thank you much! -Shaun
