Anyone else apply to CEP this week?
I can tell what what we are using for the summer session, but I would advise you to wait until there is an official book list, because they might change the required texts. PM me if you want to know the books for the Summer 2012. I got mine on Amazon, for less than the NAU bookstore prices, and someone else posted about getting them on half.com. I think the half.com total was less than mine at Amazon. I would say the first summer session for fast-track is definitely doable. I am curious as to how it works out during the semesters where we also have clinicals. I guess I will find out soon enough!

NAU and MN CEP fast track option for Spring 2013 Block 1
Ours is similar but not exactly. Note that we will start Block 1 in the Fall, and you will start Block 1 in the Spring. This affects the timing of the summer sessions, which are shorter, and I suspect that there are some NAU courses either not available in summer or just not a good idea to take in the summer. Your fast track schedule is more spread out -- it covers seven semesters. So your heaviest credit load is 14 and occurs only once (Block 4). Our fast-track covers six semesters (only 2 summer sessions) so we will have 14 credit load for both Block 2 and Block 4, and the second summer session requires 8 credits. I'm just a little nervous about the two semesters where we have 14 credits, but I am at a point in my life where I can live with passing. Of course I want the A average that I am accustomed to, and I will strive to do my best and keep up my grades, but I realize that passing the courses will get me where I want to go. (I am a recovering perfectionist, as I suspect many nursing students are). So I guess what I am saying is that I am not nervous about passing; I am nervous about my ego getting wounded because I may not be able to maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA.

NAU and MN CEP fast track option for Spring 2013 Block 1
Hi CinDRnyc, I answered your PM. I just wanted to point out that the fast track option was first introduced to the Fall 2012 cohort at GCC only, so there is no one in the 2011 cohorts to give you any feedback. We at GCC were told we were the pilot for this option. So it looks like they are rolling it out to other campuses! Good, I think it is a great option. I like that it is an option, because not everyone wants or needs to compress their schedules. The GCC cohort is only two weeks into the first semester, so difficult to give you much feedback. I don't know how many went for it, I just know there are several of us who chose the option. So far so good. Fall doesn't look bad, but I am a little nervous about Block 2, where the fast trackers take two NAU courses instead of one. Did the letter give you a tentative outline of classes, so that you can see how many credits per semester you will need to carry?

Anyone else apply to CEP this week?
@Momto3Aboys: I can't recall; it seems I had to fax so may different things to both district office and local campus (I'm at GCC). There is an acceptance you need to fax to the district office, but I think that comes after the acceptance to the local campus. You can check the one for the district office by going to your status page; it will say something like Placement accpeted: YES. As for the local campus, I remember just checking for an OK on my fax machine and keeping my fingers crossed that someone actually received it. Anyway, you may have to wait for another placement run before you get the paperwork from the district office. Take everything I tell you with a grain of salt because my memory is not too clear now that I am in the program.

Anyone else apply to CEP this week?
After you apply to NAU you will get a link to LOUIE where you can check your status online. It can take a long time to get admitted, especially if you have out-of-state transcripts. I sent in all my transcripts right away, and it took about 8 weeks for me to get admitted.

Anyone else apply to CEP this week?
@Amerk: The GPA is calculated based on specific classes. The actual classes used depends on the partner school, so you need to check for each school (NAU, ASU, U of Phoenix, etc). But it corresponds closely to the pre-reqs and co-reqs for each school. The HESI score is based on the non-science sections only (at least when i applied, perhaps it has changed, so you would need to verify this). When I took the HESI at GCC, I was not even given the science portions. It was just math, vocabulary, reading comprehension and grammar. For some reason I don't completely understand, one is not told about CEP until after you get on the Maricopa wait list. So if you are not yet on the wait list, that's the first thing you need to do. Then you get access to a link to register for an information session, which is required. After you attend an information session, then you have access to a link to register for an application session. For general information on the CEP and the requirements (including how the GPA is calculated), go to www.maricopa.nursing.edu On the left-hand side there are links to download a brochure about your program of choice. The brochure has pretty much all the information you need. Good luck! Oh I missed CinDRnyc's reply. Didn't mean to repeat the same info!

GCC/NAU Concurrent Program
@donovasu: I'm in the most recent NAU/GCC cohort. Classes start June 4 so I can't give you too much advance info (yet). However, we have already received the syllabus for NUR 330, the summer class. Two texts are required. One is a very thin little paperback that I thought was way overpriced given its brevity, but oh well, I think that is how nursing textbooks go. I might as well get used to it. The course cost was as expected for a 3-credit course -- just a little over $300 per credit, as we were told in the information sessions. I think there may have been a few extra fees, but I recall not being surprised at all by the NAU tuition invoice; it was pretty much what we were told it would be.

Anyone else apply to CEP this week?
Hello all CEP applicants! I was admitted into the Fall 2012 cohort at NAU/GCC. I can identify with your anxiety. If it was anything last the last time, different campuses sent out emails at different times. My first choice was GCC, and I got the email fairly quickly. As I recall, the MCC letters took another week to go out (I have a friend who applied to ASU/MCC and her letter came one week later than mine). So don't despair if you haven't heard yet. The waiting is sooooo hard! Good luck to everyone, and congrats to those who have already received the good news.

NAU/GCC CEP fast track option
@bsnblondie: I have the books and intend to start reading next week. I first want to map everything out on my calendar so that I have a game plan. Also, I work part-time at EMCC (I'm a tutor) and I'm planning to do the bulk of my course preparation after finals end on May 10 (that's also when my job ends -- at least until Summer I starts). I think I might have been at the same table as you and Carrie at the GASN panel discussion. I remember wondering how you guys seemed to know each other -- I know no one else in the program. But there were 3 of you talking about stuff that sounded like CEP, and I do remember someone saying they lived in/near North Glendale. I thought about joining the conversation, but I'm kinda shy. I was the older black woman with glasses and very short hair. Sound familiar? Of course given that I did not utter a single word that whole evening, I wouldn't be surprised if no one remembered me. Oh, don't forget to get your "nursing student" ID from GCC enrollment center. I went today and got mine. You need to pay for your Fall classes first, or have made the first payment on a payment plan.

NAU/GCC CEP fast track option
@naunurse: Hi Carrie, nice to meet you. I will be at the Corner Bakery gathering. I see you posted this on several threads; good idea. Are you by any chance doing the fast track? So far I know of only one other person (she posts as bsnblondie2014) who is doing the fast track.

Glendale CC traditional Fall 2012
@jchw81: Are you sure you mean GCC (Glendale Community College)? GCC requires the HESI, not the TEAS, and typically your application will not be accepted by any CC in the Maricopa County District unless you have completed all requirements, including admission test. The fact that you got a letter instructing you to take the TEAS would indicate that you applied to some other program. Perhaps you are referring to Grand Canyon U? At any rate, timestamp is referring to those applicants on the Maricopa County Community College District Nursing program wait list. The time stamp determines when you get placed, as openings arise.

how do you feel about group projects?
I haven't experienced the group dynamic in nursing school yet. I start nursing school this summer. But based on my experience with pre-reqs at the local CC group projects were the bane of my existence! Lucky for me I did not have many classes that assigned group projects. The one class that had a weekly group project assignment was pure hell. We had a little bit of everything -- the one who did not communicate with the group members until the last minute (this was an online class); the one who was a control freak and thought everyone was going to mess up the assignment (like we were all incompetent except her), the one whose feelings got hurt if we did not enthusiastically adopt each and every suggestion she made, the one who thought she was being disrespected by the younger members of the group, the one who did the bare minimum of work. And get this, we were told we would be down-graded if the group got dysfunctional, so despite all this we tried to hide the dysfunction from the instructor (didn't work, but he did not down-grade us after all). In fact, our group ended up with extra points for the quality of the projects we submitted. But all that drama was definitely not necessary. I was never so glad to complete a course! That said, I am hoping that my fellow nursing students might be a little more similar in maturity and study habits, and perhaps group projects will not be so unpleasant. But I would still avoid them if I could. I am not a fan of study groups either, but I could see myself working with a single study buddy if we had similar study habits. I like to get down to business and study. Skip the gossiping, complaining, and discussion of your social life. So far I have managed on my own quite well. I'm one of the quiet ones -- give me a book and a quiet room and I can happily study all day. It's not that I am anti-social, just very focused on the task at hand and I don't like to be distracted from my main goal. I don't learn well when people are yapping at me on off-topic stuff.

NAU/GCC CEP fast track option
As I posted in another thread, I received the NUR 330 syllabus in my email today (check your official NAU gmail account). No information on NUR 321 yet. It is on my schedule but there is no book information yet. And nothing yet about NUR 307 in the fall. I do keep checking to see if it pops up on LOUIE.
