Yes, I was told they would start me out in Newborn Nursery & I would cross train w/ NICU. I don't know whether to give up what I know, my routineat the doctors office or go for it! find my niche like everyone else that posts here & love it soo much & never look back!

I have a 4 yr Hx in adult ICU/CCU - I felt burned out & left. Started working Part-time in an Oncology Doctor's Office. Needless to say it is a very lush job. Bought a new home & need Full-time work, so applied back to the hospital that I came from - was offered a position in the Newborn Nursery. The pay is exactly the same as the MD office, except at the hospital I don't receive any benefits in Liue of more pay -that means no vaca/sick leave. When I told the MD office they then offered me Full-time. Also, I have applied to a N.P. program that starts in Spring "07". I would like some input from any nurses that have worked in the Nursery or have come from adult ICU to nursery work. There seems to be a variety of learning opportunities like teaching lamaze/breastfeeding,etc. but I am concerned about not having benefits. I am also concerned w/ leaving the MD office and finding that I'm not happy in the nursery, although every nurse I have spoke w/ states that the nursery is great & you will never want to leave! I really am trying to find my niche -I've been a RN 5 yrs (LPN 13yrs) -I'm wondering what a shift is like in the nursery, and wondering what if this is my niche! I have one week to make a decision :0( and let them know. Any advice is appreciated.

I am a RN w/ 14 years Med/Surg & 2 yrs Crit. Care. experience. I recently put in a packet to join the Airforce as an officer/RN. My husband is retiring from the military in a year - so we are used to the life & I have been guaranteed to my choice of duty station - mind you this doesn't mean that I'm not deployable. I am in my early 30's & thought that this would offer great opportunities! My immediate family (husband & 3 kids) are very supportive, but everyone else stares at me as if I have lost my last marble, making statements to me like. "Don't you know it's wartime?" The recruiter said that nurses are deployable for 4 months out of every 2 yrs & of course the base you would be sent to right now is Balad in Baghdad -he said it's safe & many nurses like it & ask to go back. My parents (in their 70's) refused to speak about it. I of course see the benefits - obtaining my Master's (they pay for it) , a retirement, etc. I also am terrified about being deployed to Iraq! I have not signed papers yet - so still have options. Does anyone have any advice? Any Airforce nurses out there? Thank You!

Has anyone out there known of anyone or gone over 200 questions and still passed? I know they say you can't really determine by the number that you take, but everyone that I have heard of that only took 75 have passed. I don't know about the people that go as far as 200. Anyone know? Thanks

For those that do -thanks for taking time to read all this and offer your help. Med-surg 11 years and feel the need for change. I am 35 and have 3 children -13, 11, & 9. My husband is supportive. Two job offers on the table & can't make a decision. I love critical care of any kind adult or peds -it doesn't matter! But at the time I applied I wasn't sure anyone would have me with no experience. Oneday I might like to continue on in the field to obtain NP or CRNA, if it's in Gods plans for me. The NICU position/offer is in a renowned hospital and I was chosen out of quite a few. I had to undergo two interviews and they seemed very picky & firm. Staff was friendly and helpful. I've only been in the unit once there. It is a very large hopsital. You have to pay for parking approx $300/yr. It's about 20miles from my house but the drive in our traffic takes about an hour or two. It is a night position, extensive orientation, including nursery as well. The ICU is in a small, rural hospital approx 5 miles from the house and the kids school. Offer is also at night. They see quite a bit -triple A's, etc. I've worked in their unit 7 times. They have a good team that act like family, very friendly and helpful. There is no parking fee here. My dilemma: I truly enjoy both so it's hard to pick one - but I will have to. My husband retires in 3 years and I know we will move back south. I want to pick the one that will offer the most opportunities when we leave. Something good on the resume and that works with my family. The salary offers were close, the rural hospital actually offering $2 more per hour. I'm afraid of picking one over the other -afraid I may miss an opportunity either way. Please offer your advise and experiences in these areas. I have been praying that one will pop out at me then decided to finally post - feedback is good!
