  1. Hi! Has anyone taken the Patient Care Tech program at Saint Thomas? Or is a PCT there...or at Baptist? I'm graduating this fall and am taking a gap year before applying, and hopefully going to, Vanderbilt nursing school. I came across the PCT program, and liked it especially because it's free and fits my schedule :) I was just wondering how you liked the program, and is it easy to get a job there once you finish the program? (Online it says that people have the chance to interview for a position). And any other important information you can provide would be helpful. I can't find anything about it. Thanks ahead of time!
  2. Hi all! I want to apply for Vanderbilt's prespecialty program to become a nurse practitioner. So...I was thinking of either becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner or a family nurse practitioner. (I do prefer to work with children). Can anyone who works in pediatrics as a nurse practitioner give me an idea of how the job market is in TN? Was it hard finding a job as a pediatric nurse practitioner? I'm just unsure which route would be the best way to go... Thanks ahead of time!
  3. mammac5 Thanks for your reply! I had never really thought about the possible income it would cost me to wait-good point! I'm an undergrad at Vandy, but I'm not doing the 3-2 program... It's too late since I'll be graduating this May. Good luck in your second year! Did you have any prior nursing experience when you applied for the prespecialty program? I think I'm just going to skip getting my ADN and hopefully Vandy will prepare me enough for passing the NCLEX and what not...if I get accepted, that is :)
  4. Hi! I've been struggling to figure out what would be the best way to apply to Vanderbilt's prespecialty program. I ultimately want to be a pediatric nurse practitioner. I'm graduating with a non-nursing bachelors degree. I am considering 2 choices: 1) Work as a Patient Care Tech for a year and apply to Vanderbilt 2) Attend Columbia State Community College and get an ADN By going to Columbia State I'd still have to do the 2 years of school...the first year would just be a semester shorter. Is it worth the high tuition/debt to go to Vandy? Would having an ADN make my chances of being accepted go up or better prepare me (Basically...is it worth the extra year I'd have to wait to apply)? Btw, I live here in TN and will be graduating from Vandy. So, I'm partial to it :) So many questions.... Thanks ahead of time!
  5. Hi everyone! So, I decided a little late that I wanted to go to nursing school. I go to school at Vanderbilt and have a major in Medicine, Health, and Society (GPA is 3.1 so far...not great but I struggled a lot in the beginning when I had my daughter). I'm taking prerequisite courses for nursing school. Where do I go from here when I graduate? Do I have to go through more years of school to become an RN? Or is there a way to take the degree I'll be getting and do something else (not sure what)? My ultimate plan is to become a pediatric nurse practitioner...at least for now. Sorry, I'm a little confused and don't really know what my options are. Thanks for any help!
