unpaid orientation florida hospital/medical staffing network
I was just told by Medical Staffing Network that I needed to do 20 online modules prior to my physical orientation day and that the 20 modules would not be paid. I was told that Florida Hospital does not pay nurses for online work and that all the nurses that have been hired there had no problem working for free. When I explained that by federal and state law any hours spent either at work or on a computer at home doing work needed to be paid I was told that I was no longer a candidate for the position. I am looking for other nurses that have either lost the opportunity for a job because they refused to work for free or nurses that did the orientation and did not get paid for it. We as a profession need to follow federal and state laws and hold hospitals and travel companies accountable to following those laws and quit taking jobs and doing work without getting paid. I will be filing a complaint against Florida hospital and Medical Staffing Network for their unethical practices of work without compensation.

Not hating, was actually agreeing with your post about being a show off and how it may not work out good

Best pay for RN's when cost of living is factored into the equation...
I may be a rookie or even out of line in my remarks but I found this post almost discouraging... My grandfather always said "If you love what you do for a living, you never have to work a day in your life." I am in the clinical setting for class and have seen nurses that are great and then nurses who complain and moan all day... Good nurses show me how to care, other nurses explain that room 206 has a crazy lady in it to stay out of there... I have good nurses who correct me in my charting and the other nurses who chastise me for mentioning they forgot to do the I & O report on a patient.... I have good nurses help me understand the path to my goal of flight nurse and other nurses tell me there is better pay at other hospitals

Thanks for the tips and comments... I have talked to a few other females in the class and they have been understanding... I don't think being "that guy" will get me very far with any of them

Ok, I had clinical experience and skills time in EMT class where the guy to girl ratio was 4 to 1 in favor of the guys, then I get to nursing (RN) program and the ratio is flipped... My issue is that I am in a skills group of 4 girls and when learning the basics (IE. apical pulse) I have been shunned and side stepped by the girls. I am concerned that I am either percieved as a pervert that wants a cheap feel or they are scared to have a guy touch them... We can't form an all guy group for skills any suggestions?
