Percentage of Nurse Practitioners per specialty...?
Is there a website that breaks down the percentage of Nurse Practitioners in each specialty/field?...whether it be for a city or state?...or even nationwide. I'm wondering, of all NPs, how many specialize in Oncology, Psych, Neonatal, Women's Health, Acute Care, etc. Wanted to see a breakdown. Anyone know where I can find this? I have been searching google and trying to find it. From your knowledge, which NP seems to be in the highest demand? Women's Health seems like a fun specialty, but I have heard that they are in very low demand, unless they specialize in OB/GYN, as well..or something of the likes. I have also heard that general Family NPs are not in very high demand, either. I am interested in becoming a Geriatric or Oncology NP, and curious to know what the outlook is, in comparison to other NP specialties/fields. I was VERY interested in Psych, but kind of stepped back from it because I wasn't sure of the outlook for it. Thanks:nurse:

RN-MSN Online for Geriatric/Psychiatric/Oncology Nurse Practitioner
Hello~ Sorry if this is in the wrong category. Please feel free to move it. Does anyone know of an online RN-MSN program where I could become a Geriatric/Psychiatric/Oncology Nurse Practitioner and practice in all tri-state areas? For instance, I wouldn't want to go in a program that will not allow me to practice in New Jersey or Connecticut. I'm from the NorthEast and my husband is, as well, and has a good career out here..so moving isn't an option. Just want to make sure I look into schools that will give me the ability to practice, here, as my ultimate goal is to open my own clinic. I know I probably can't specialize in all 3, at one time, but I would like to find an online RN-MSN where I can specialize in 2 of the 3...regardless of which ones..because I'm equally passionate about each.

Nurse Practitioners req. doctorate in 2013?
Hi All, Sorry if this has been posted, but I had to ask. Is it true that Nurse Practitioners will need to earn a doctorates, starting in 2013? If so, is there any hope for RNs, like me, who plan on completing an RN-MSN (Nurse Practitioner) program starting in 2013? I would go sooner..but I can't afford to. I was planning on starting an RN-MSN program to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. With this new law...should it even go into effect..would I be grandfathered in..or have to go back to school for 2 years? Very confused and would appreciate if someone could shed the light. As a woman, I have always wanted to focus on Nursing, become an NP, and open my own clinic, one day. It seemed like a way for me to do what I love, and not spend 10-12 years in college, as I do want to start a family..esp. due to my age...but if I learn that I will require the total 8 years of schooling...truthfully..I rather switch to a pre-med track right now..because it was one of the things I wanted to do..but I love nursing and got into it for the quick opps, etc.
