I'm getting good feedback. Management and preceptor say I'm doing great. But I feel as if I'm underperforming. Thank you guys for the reply.

First, I should not be complaining. I will be the first to admit it. I was able to land an amazing job across the country from where I graduated. I make a livable wage, and received a 17% bump in pay. I am an operating room nurse in a renowned hospital. I circulate Hearts and endovascular cases, and yet I feel like I'm not getting it! I graduated in May, started my internship in June and bought a house in August. I started out making 24.00 dollars an hour and now I make 28.39 an hour due to a system wide bump in OR nurse pay. I am preceptoring until the first of the year and man is it stressful. I feel like I'm not catching on as fast as I should. Aside from working as a CNA off and on through school, this is my first nursing position. I have held many other jobs over the years (am 27 now) and have excelled at them all, but this one. I feel behind. I am am chalking it up to inexperience, but at what point should I catch on? In addition to this, I am currently in talks with the Indian health services for a pacu/or position in the middle of nowhere to help pay off my student loans. Should I pursue this opportunity as green as I am? What if I accept? I will have to move my family across the country again, to the middle of nowhere. We will be isolated, but would be debt free in 2 years. I don't know if I should stay at my current position and train longer until I break out of the novice stage or move to pay off debt. But if I move will I be able to keep up with the new positions demand?

Hello! I am am a relative new grad with a few months OR experience under my belt. I have about 46k in student loans from a BSN nursing degree. My tuition was paid for because I'm a disabled vet, the loans were for childcare and housing, really so we could live. My question is since I used va chapter 31 va voc rehab for tuition will the Indian health services still pay off my loans? I know that the va will not if I work at a va facility.. I have been semi offered a position and would love to take it.. If they will repay my loans. So what I'm saying is my tuition was paid but I still took loans out in pursuit of this degree, will they still pay my loans off? I want to accept the position because I will be a great fit but I can't pull the trigger and move to BFE with out this really nice incentive. thanks!

I was offered the OR internship!!!! Super excited!! Any advice guys? How do I prepare!? Aside from passing my boards of course...

I had my interview on Monday. it went well I think. I stumbled on a few questions, and really looked dumb on a very important one But I think I recovered well. Is anyone else here applying for an OR internship not at BUMC? I am super anxious!! I was told that training/class is 20 weeks, full time and that it does translate into a full time position afterwards. Maybe its position, or location specific? Because I know the Medsurge internship is only 8 weeks of training/class then full time precept.

I interviewed for plano and Carrollton. My phone interviews were really weird. I am an out of state applicant and they want me to have an in person interview. Which I am going to set up today, but the phone interview felt really weird.

I was called today and have set up 2 interviews, one tomorrow and one on Friday. Does anyone have any advice? It is for the OR internship.

I had a medsurg, and OR interview last week. They tried to sway me towards Garland and Dallas for medsurge and Carrollton and Plano for the OR. I was denied the ER internship literally 30 minutes after I submitted the initial application and chose 3 areas. The internship sounds pretty great... I am really hoping I am selected for the OR internship. Has anyone had a second interview yet?

I am really confused. I went to the Texas-BON and hit apply (under examination) and it asks for my Texas DL.... Thank you guys for the comments. I seem to need to search harder.

So because I am a legal resident of Washington, a non compact state I would be able to apply for a Texas License with out needing to prove I am a Texas resident?

Hello, I need clarification. I will be graduating from an accredited program In idaho. I will be moving to Texas 15 days after graduation. What is the process for applying to take the NCLEX in Texas, to be licensed in Texas? Looking at the Texas BON website, it shows that I need to have a Texas DL, take the NJE, apply for finger printing/background check and then take the NCLEX. Can I start this process now? Should I register with pearson vue to take the NCLEX in Texas now? I have a residence in texas now, however I am a Washington resident currently. So will I have to wait to start this whole process until I get to Texas? I can not take the NCLEX in Idaho for Idaho due to my living situation (my lease etc). What is the best way for me to proceed? I dont want this to be a 6 month ordeal after graduation. Thanks.

Hello, I am wondering what the new grad pay is in sherman texas? I have heard pretty low numbers in the low 20's. I will be a bachelor prepared nurse and may have a job offer in the works. Was just wondering what I could expect and if I can negotiate for a higher salary? Thanks!

I know! Most instructors I talk to say getting a job right out of school in the OR will be tough. I have worked as a CNA for a little over 6-7 months would that be enough? I am torn on where I want to work really, I would love to work in the OR or Psych, but dread the golden year in medsurge, if I can avoid that I want to. Thanks you for the replies!

Those were my thoughts, they said I could use their address and we have a texas cell number, 903... So I feel confident on that front. Should I start applying now(March -April)? And can I only apply to new grad positions??or should I just mass apply? I'm a disabled vet, so I have help there...

Hello! I will be moving to back home to Dallas after I graduate (with a BSN, from a college in idaho) in May. I am really worried about the job prospects and the overall job hunt. I want to work in the OR but I don't now how to go about searching for new grad friendly positions. I will be moving in with my inlaws until I can find employment. Should I apply to internships? My gpa will be a 3.5 so it's not super strong. Should I avoid internships and just apply for every job out there? I am getting to the point where I need to start making moves, only I don't know what moves to make! Any help would be appreciated.

I will be graduating (fingers crossed) in May with a BSN from a college in Idaho. I am from the Dallas area and will be returning there shortly after graduation, two-three weeks after. My family and I will be living with my wife's parents until we find employment. I was wondering if you guys could offer me advice on when I should start applying for positions in the area? Should I wait until I graduate or should I start earlier? Would me being an idaho resident hinder my chance of getting an interview? Should I wait until I'm back in Texas? I am so excited to be coming home! I know the market is tough, are there hospitals I should avoid? I really want to work in the OR, I will be precepting in the OR and just love everything about it.

Hey! I am finally starting my last semester of nursing school!!! I moved 2000 miles from home to go to nursing school (I avoided a lengthy wait list) and I will graduate in May (fingers crossed). My family and I plan on moving back home to work/live. When should I start applying for positions? And is anyone else in the same boat? Staying here is not an option, and was never the plan. We will be using my loan money for the move and will be living with my wife's parents until I can find employment. We will be moving from Washington/idaho border to Dallas/mckinney texas. I will graduate with a BSN and will leave two weeks after graduation, so I won't take the Nclex until mid June or so. Any advice? Thanks,

Lewis clark state college lewiston idaho, crappy, crappy town. Excellent school. 50-60 apply every semester and 48 are accepted. Average gap accepted is 3.0-.2. High nclex pass rate 98-99%

I appreciate the replies. My parents are put of the picture and cannot help us. And her parents are willing to pay our rent for two months at our current house so we don't loose it if I take the externship. I know it's an amazing opportunity that will set us up for independence and the scholarship would be very nice! (The only have 3-4 to give and 10 participants). This is the issue with taking it: These last two semesters have really strained our marrige. I'm always at school (18 credits a semester...) or at work (24-40 hrs a week). Not to mention I hardly ever see my kids. So I want to spend quality time with them this summer. If we move to Seattle and can only afford a tiny box they will be stuck. We could do things on the weekends but the program requires an extensive research project... So the benefits to the program is amazing but I miss my wife and kids... So I really do not know what to do. I am a disabled veteran and have always had the intentions of working at the va for this reason, and the benefits are amazing and I don't have to go through a lengthy interview process when I graduate... Idont know what to do:/

Hello fellow students and current nurses, I have a dilemma. I was recently accepted to a VA VALOR externship in Seattle, a six hour drive from where I live now. If I follow through with the externship I would have to move my family to Seattle for the ten weeks. Which we would love! it pays 21 dollars an hour so we should be able to live on that during this time. We have to find temporary housing which takes a lot of money up front which we do not have... This is a worry of ours. I also have to agree to working at least one day a month throughout my final two semesters. Which I am ok with. But I am guaranteed a job with the Va medical center after graduation, a possible 10k scholarship and I will start 1-2 steps higher than a new grad nurse. So lots of amazing benefits. I would have to sign a one year contract after graduation... And, my in-laws have agreed to pay 2 months of our rent in our current home so we can take this opportunity, but they do not know about the year contract :/ Option two.. We are from Dallas Texas (1900 miles from where we now live.) and my wife's parents are older, she is worried about them and there health. We moved here for school only and have planned to move back after I graduate. We will have student loan debt, we have two young kids and could use their support (housing) after we move back...I work at the local hospital as a CNA and they want to cross train me to be a PCT in the ICU/PCU... We could have a lazy last summer and explore and maybe take a trip or two and not have to worry about studying.. Just work and fun. It would be easy, and is equally appealing to us. I want to do both! We want to live in Seattle! we love the city but we want to go home and buy a house! (Dallas) We are so indecisive, we want to travel. We also are semi-professional photographers and would love either options in that sense. Advice is what I want. What would you do? I do not have a family support system to ask, only the internet.
