  1. Agree with this answer. HIPPA violation of the first order. Get a lawyer.
  2. Would say this is chemical restraint. Are at least would question it as so. Even if you are not the primary family caregiver you can call the states office of long term care and ask them to please check into it for you. The home will not be told who requested this and they will look into more then just you Grandmothers case.
  3. To me, as a RN, and yes I have and still do work LTC and Acute-care both. it is my job to do whatever is needed by both my patient/resident, other staff members, and family member. Sometimes it is hard. Pulled in 15 different directions at the same time and not enough min's in a day. But when a fellow staffer or resident smiles and says thanks for the help. It sure makes it worth while,
  4. The main thing to remember is if you do your best to do your job the right way all the time, then when "state" comes in the LTC facility you work in you will not have to worry about how you are suppose to do something when state is there or not. Its called good nursing all the time, to the best of your ability. Its what your patients/residents should be able to recieve from you any day, any time, no matter who is there are not. What you do all the time is what you will do when "state" is there. It will become a habit. You will do it without thinking. So do it the right way all the time.
  5. In Ar. an LPN has to be IV Cert. to start, maintain and or monitor a patient or resident in LTC. A record of this Cert is to be in your file. You also have to be trained to draw blood and a record of this training needs to be in your file. This is per your nurse practice act. Your consultant is right. Now do I know this. lol I am an instructor in IV Therapy for LTC nurses in the state of Ar. If you will e-mail me I will be glad to help you out with when a class in your area is coming up and most of the time these classes are paid for by a company that services your facility.
