New grads can't get jobs afraid of becoming an old new grad.
Well I am a 6 month graduated New Grad that works in a NICU as a HUC. So I get to be Old Grad, that ONLY wants to work with Babies in "Nurse Recruiter/Managers" eyes.. No matter how many times you tell people "I do not have a preference I am ready to get started" "I am excited for any job Tele, Med-Surg, Ortho, Ono".. They do not listen. I have been told by my recruiters to LIE to people... Sorry I have integrity. :) Even though most people don't.... I say just keep plugging away, I just take it day by day.. I know that I will be a great nurse some day, even though Mrs. Nurse Recruiter cant see that!!!! I am ACLS, PALS, STABLE and NRP certified. So far the certs have not helped at all..... Nice window dressing I guess.. I got to meet some nice people in class....:), , , ..... Who knows what to think. In my market Phoenix!!!! They just keep listing the same jobs over and over and over again..... Why would they want to hire a new grad??? That would make to much sense.. It makes so much more sense to list the ICU, Emergency, Med-Surge or Tele position for 3-6 months.....

May '11 grad in KY wanting to move to phoenix
If I were you and you have a job lined up in Kentucky I would take it for a year or two then move to Phoenix. With experience it should not be hard to find a job in Phoenix. But as a new grad it is a nightmare..... I am a March 2010 Graduate still waiting and applying, and waiting and applying. If anyone knows of any WIS departments looking for a new grad, or any departments let me know!!!!

Abrazo New Grad Training Program
Don't give up, ust keep plugging away. Something will come up for you soon. Just keep praying, its all in the PLAN. I have not heard anything from Abrazo, I am in the "Resume Acknowledged" camp. Been trying to call and get info, but no one ever calls back. Its amazing how the new grads get treated like we are less than human!!! We are people 2. In a few years when the rolls are reversed, I will remember the Hospitals that treated me with respect.

My RANT on the state of Nursing in my neck of the woods
Being a new Grad that looks at the job boards everyday, possibly every few hours. If they have lines out the door to take your spots, then why do they post, re-post, re-post and re-post the same ICU jobs over and over again. Maybe the managers are not in the great spot that they think they are. At least that is how it is in Phoenix. I wish it were cheaper to hire a new grad, because we are not seeing it :). I have had about 15 interviews over the last 6 months. 35 New Grads going for 5 spots is not very good odds. Maybe it is time for the managers to actually hire some STAFF.. Wow that is a novel idea.

Life as a New Grad Sucks
To all the recruiters out there!!! I agree with the first post. I will remember you(nurse recruiters) that have never called me back. I will remember the 2-3 that have been rude to me. In 3-5 years when you are begging us to work for you... We(The New Grad hoard) will remember!!! Keep fighting everyone, it is all you can do... To the one or two recruiters that do call people back Kudos to you.!!! You should treat people with some respect and we greatly appreciate it... We know things are tight, we know you are not allowed to hire new grads.. It is so much nicer when you just tell someone that!!! :)

Chose your precepting department VERY carefully!!!
Nursing Students, Please pick the department that you precept in very carefully!!!!! Do some research!!! You will be so excited when you get to pick, nursing school is almost over!! Your nursing school will not tell you that the hospital/department you precept in can help you get a JOB after school.!!! I was given no advice from my school or my nursing program, so I decided to precept in the NICU of a large hospital system in the West Valley. Now whenever I go into an interview I am pegged by managers as a Nurse that only wants to work with Babies. Meanwhile I have seen all my friends from my nursing class that precepted in Tele, or ICU, or Med Surge have been picked up by the Units that they precepted in. I know their are a lot of Nursing students that would love to precept in WIS, or L&D, NICU, or PICU....!!!! Be careful these departments at this time in the economy are not really hiring NEW GRADS! I just wanted to take a minute to write this down, I am 6 months into my job search. I thought that graduating would be the hard part. In reality it is not. I really wish my nursing program would have been more helpful!!! I would have precepted in Tele if I would have know it would have helped me get a job in the future.. When you finish school don't get frustrated... Just keep trying and trying, your job will come eventually!!! It will take some time in this economy. A helpful friend!!

Abrazo New Grad Training Program
All, Has anyone heard from Abrazo on the New Grad Training program that they have listed on their site?? I applied for it about a week ago, but have not heard anything. I was given the number for the recruiter that I was told was running the program. I have called her about 5o times and left her several messages. I guess I am not worthy of a response.!! Does anyone have any inside scoop?? Is this another program that will only be offered to "INTERNAL" applicants? If so then don't list it all over the internet!!! Desperatly seeking a chance!!!
