Public Health Nurse for Health Dept
I started off as a new grad in public health. Since I work primarily with a pediatric population, I don't think that I missed out by not having worked in a standard med/surg unit, but I probably would have benefited with a little time on a ped unit. Public Health is so varied and so different from acute care that I don't think that time spent on a med/surg floor is crucial to success. And yes, I too love my job and the many hats that I get to wear.

Public Health Nurse
It's my turn to scour the boards looking for the answer to this question. I have a few weeks to prepare, and this will certainly get me started. Thank you mariebailey for the info. Any other advice out there?

Anyone notified yet? Sac State CCE ASBSN program 2011
I didn't send in any documentation with mine, and I just found out that my appeal has been approved. I've been staying home with my 2 now not so little kids for the last 10 years, and haven't been employed. I have no documentation to prove it, and I wouldn't even know where to get it anyway. So, that's a very abridged version of what I wrote in my appeal and it seemed to be acceptable.

Anyone notified yet? Sac State CCE ASBSN program 2011
Hi Sarah, I am going to be at the CPR class after orientation. My current certification is not at healthcare provider level and this one is less than half the price I was going to pay at the hospital where I volunteer. Seemed like a good deal to me.

Anyone notified yet? Sac State CCE ASBSN program 2011
Hi runningrn2b, I understand completely. I've waited for a while for the right time and program. I was accepted into Samuel Merritt's ABSN also, but this program feels like a much better fit for me. It's a happy compromise between the SMU's accelerate program, and the CSUS traditional track. I'm hoping that I'll even find the time to catch a breath once this gets going.

Anyone notified yet? Sac State CCE ASBSN program 2011
Hi Sarah and Janice, I'm so happy to hear that you both got in. I'm looking forward to meeting you on Nov 18th at orientation. My name is Sabina by the way, and I live in Placerville. Runningrn, I think I may have followed you in another thread for Fall '11. I was wondering if we would meet up at some point since it seemed we were applying for the same programs. Congratulations!!

Anyone notified yet? Sac State CCE ASBSN program 2011
I found out about the program on August 1st and had my application in by noon that day. I rushed it. When I in for the advising meeting 2 days later they said they had about 26 applications in. I got really lucky because I just happened to be on Sac States nursing site that day and saw the link to the ABSN. I was getting ready to apply to the traditional tract. This works way better for me and my family. Good luck to both of you!! Don't lose hope yet, since some may be holding out for the less expensive traditional tract.

Anyone notified yet? Sac State CCE ASBSN program 2011
Our deadline to accept was on the 27th, so 1 week ago. They gave us about 6 days. I suspect that they are working on the alternates still, since we haven't heard anything since. Good luck!

Hi, I heard that I got in about 2 weeks ago on the 21st, but don't know much more right now. I don't know if you've heard anything from them since you posted this, but they may still be going through the alternate list. We had a deadline for Sac State general admission on the 27th. Good Luck to you!

Spring 2012 Samuel Merritt ABSN applicants
Hi cateisgreat, Don't give up hope yet. It seems as if the calls are going out in the evenings, and they probably aren't done yet. Mine came at about 6 last night. I don't know haw many they do in the evening, but you would think that with about 40 students it will take a few days.

Samuel Merritt - ELMSN FNP - Sacramento 2012
I doubt that you'll need to worry about it next year. Your waitlist number is great, and I think you'll get in.

Samuel Merritt - ELMSN FNP - Sacramento 2012
@smschobert, I'm good - just found out I got into Sac State's new ABSN, so no matter what, I'm going to nursing school. Yeehah!!! Still waiting to hear from SMU about their ABSN, but it finally seems that it's meant to be.

Samuel Merritt - ELMSN FNP - Sacramento 2012
shschobert, I was 11. It was kind of crazy last year since there weren't many options for 2nd baccalaureates in the Sac area. Pretty much everybody with a BS who needed to stay in the Sac area had to apply to either of SMU's programs offered here. I think that with Sac State opening up to 2nd Baccs this year, more people may consider that route since it is so much less expensive. Anyway, I didn't stand a chance last year, but I know that they made it through 3 at least. I think you have a pretty good chance of getting in. Good Luck to you!!

Samuel Merritt - ELMSN FNP - Sacramento 2012
Hi JeninCA, I completely agree with BeHere. I was waitlisted last year for ELMSN FNP, my number never came up, and now I'm waiting to hear about the various programs I applied to this year. I was disappointed about not making it in, but I ended up having such a crazy year with my kids that I really think that there was a purpose behind not getting in then. I've realized that 3 1/2 years is a terribly long time in my kids' lives that I would be missing out on. So this year I've applied to 2 ABSN programs because of the shorter time commitment. I can always go for my FNP later. I've really learned how much I value my time with my kids, and I decided that I'm not willing to sacrifice over 3 years. Anyway, believe that you will get there, the time just wasn't right. After all, you were good enough to interview, right? Either way, it's still hard news, and I'm sorry you didn't get in.
