  1. I am in NP school right now. I worked as an RN first and loved it, but grew tired of not having any autonomy. It is my understanding that most schools require at least 2 years of ER or critical care experience before you apply. I may be wrong though. Another tidbit, several nursing organizations are pushing for the NP degree to be a Doctorate. It would be a Doctorate of clinical practice. They are pushing for this by the year 2015. Won' t the MDs be happy!
  2. I started in ER as a new grad on night shift. I loved it, but you can get burned out very easily. As far as defibs go, I probably used them maybe 10 times in 3 years. It depends on the cardiac rhythm. I suggested reading the ACLS manual if you are interested. Most of the time in the ER you usually see the "citizens" and the coughs/colds/non emergency or the HTN CHF pateints. A lot of patients are real train wrecks! If you re interested in ER, make sure to do a preceptorship, or even work as an aide until graduation. It is definitely not for everyone. I am now in grad school for family nurse practioner. LOoking froward to the weekends and holidays off :) dkv
  3. I have suffered from migraines for years. A dark, quiet room helps. I have also found a wonder drug, Maxalt MLT (non-narcotic). This drug is taken sublingual and works as soon as 5 min after taking it. Hope this helps:) dkv
  4. I am talking about the University of South Alabama. You can take online courses or attend at the university. dkv
  5. Hi There! I am currently in the MSN nurse practioner online program at USA and I love it! The instructors are soooo helpful. iwas afraid that i would not like the online program at first, but I am soooo happy that I didi it! dkv
  6. Hi there! I suggest going throught the RN to MSN program and bypassing the LPN program. I went through the traditional BSN program and I am now cmpleting my MSN online via USA. Just a suggesion :) dkv
