  1. Hello fellow Educators, I am a 1st year Master's student, in the Education Specialty at UCSF, and one of my extra credit projects is to interview a currently employed educator. This person may be an educator in an AD, or baccalaureate program, and I have a list of about 10 questions to ask--about curriculums, teaching loads, clinicals, etc- If anyone is interested in helping out a fellow "educator wanna-be":) , I would be very appreciative! I will keep your name confidential (between you, me, and my professor), and could probably do this offline, via email. Let me know if interested. Thanks, Paul
  2. Deep abdominal palpation can have risks if done improperly or in the wrong clinical situation. In my 20 years of nursing, I have never seen an R.N. (BSN) use an opthalmoscope--except to do pupil checks (because they didn't have a small flashlight) or to peak in a childs ear to find the missing peanut. I believe there are some assessment skills that should be reserved for advance practice nurses who are diagnosing and treating. Certainly all BSN's should be taught basic assessments and normal from abnormal---but there are some skills that REQUIRE advanced knowledge and training to be safe and effective. Will be interested to see other opinions. Good Luck!
  3. Hello there, Glad to find this site! I'm currently working as a nurse educator at a hospital based dialysis unit here in San Francisco. My 20 year in nursing has been in critical care, acute and chronic hemodialysis, pediatric dialysis, apheresis, management, and now education. Worked as an educator for a medical equipment company---but the corporate mentality wasn't for me. Was recently accepted to graduate school. Will start in September on my MSN with an education specialty. If I stay motivated, I would love to get my PhD as there certainly appears to be the need. Have enjoyed reading the different threads, primarily around the (seemingly reduced) caliber / motivation of many of our newer nurses. I can relate!! Look forward to the networking! Thanks
