I JUST GOT ACCEPTED INTO RALEIGH, NC. GPA 3.4, GRE 970, OR, CICU, AND CSICU EXPERIENCE. NURSE FOR 2 1/2 YEARS WITH 2 YEARS ICU EXPERIENCE. ACLS, PALS

I HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY MANAGER WHEN I HAD WORKED THERE OVER A YEAR AND TOLD HER I WAS TRANSFERRING TO ANOTHER UNIT. SHE TOLD ME SHE WOULD NOT RIGHT ME A GOOD REFERENCE AND SHE'S MAD B/C A LOT OF HER NURSES ARE LEAVING THE UNIT TO GO TO ANESTHESIA SCHOOL. PERSONALLY, I THINK THEY SHOULD BE SUPPORTIVE IN WHATEVER THE STAFF MEMBER WANTS TO DO. AND SHE WILL STILL BE A MANAGER WHILE HOPEFULLY I WILL BE A CRNA.

I have worked in cardiac medicine ICU with plenty of MICU patients too in the same unit. Currently I work in the Cardio Thoracic ICU with post CABG and Valve patients. I have definitely gained better experience here more than i ever did in medicine. I see swans, multiple vasoactive gtts, IABP, and vents. We see a lot of sick patients at this hospital. This unit is always requiring you to critically think and titrate gtts. It is very busy but I recommend CVICU. You have the blend of cardiac and surgical patients at the same time!! Good luck!!

I am applying to anesthesia school this summer and have been working in a Cardiac ICU for a year. I previously worked in the OR and realized that's when I wanted to become a CRNA. In a month I am transferring to Cardiac Surgery ICU for more exposure to swans and hemodynamics. When I told my current manager I was transferring to another unit, he was mad and told me he would not write a good reference because I have only one year experience and that it would not allow me to have better experience being in Cardiac Surgery ICU. Would it be okay to get a reference from a current charge nurse or have my new manager evaluate me?
