  1. Call the Student Health Services line 604.822.7011 and tell them you are entering the Faculty of Nursing in the fall and need to book your Immunization Review. They will ask for your student number and other info. You will need to book a 40 minute appointment and another quick 5-10 min. appointment 3 days later. Mine are Tuesday and Friday. Hopefully you will have flexible availability because mine had to be in September because I'm still working fulltime. Goodluck!
  2. Has anyone figured out what the deal is with health insurance? I notice that it is part of our fee structure, but do we still pay MSP monthly? Perhaps someone already in the program could help me out with this issue? Thanks!
  3. Hi All, Just a heads-up for everyone still needing to book an immunization review; I booked mine today and got a spot on SEPTEMBER 20th!!! Hopefully I'm one of the last! (And getting rid of my procrastinating ways!)
  4. THanks k_mb for the info... you are right, I am soooo ready to buy textbooks, moreso to just part with the money so I know its gone and I dont have it sitting in my account as a tease..... I will wait... but tell all your fellow 'uppers' to check out this site for people asking for books!!!!! thx -hart16
  5. Lolo 4, I got my Stethoscope, the Littman Classic II S.E. model. I asked a family member who is an O.R. Nurse and she said to stick with that one, and the only time you might need something different is to use a smaller Infant chestpiece would be for Peds rotations, and most hospitals and clinics have those in the Unit.
  6. I registered Tuesday morning for group B, group A was already full... Who else can't WAIT for textbooks?!?! I just want to hurry up and 'rip the bandaid' and find out the costs! I have 2 jobs that I am trying to keep; Both (thankfully) have bosses that are willing to offer me shifts and I can work whatever I can do. I'm wondering how much I'm going to be able to do with reading and assignments, but keeping my fingers crossed that I can have a little income! Erob- I know some people that rent a few places in the UBC-Vancouver area, very nice & well-kept places, too! I will find out some info and let you know if anything might work for you! Can't wait! :)
  7. Hey Allemande, About the immunization review... Did you take any paperwork into the appointment with you? Did you get anything completed by your family doctor showing shots you received as a child? And do you have to return in 2-3 days for a 2nd appointment still? Thx p.s. Excited to be a student...but being unemployed, not so much!! :S
  8. Hi all, I contacted UBC regarding the information package we are supposed to receive, and was told that we will be getting it via email rather than by regular mail.
  9. I received a general acceptance letter and pack regarding info about tuition, residence, services at UBC, etc... looks like the type of thing any first-time UBC student would get, nothing specific to the SON. I have seen on my online profile that I have been assigned a registration time of mid-July, so I hope we get some info soon!
  10. Looks like the SCC pages have the offers ready to accept or decline online... Check out the deadline date, it's JUNE 1st, not the 15th! (Just a heads up for everyone!) I went to accept and it had a notice about the deposit not being ready yet. I assume over the next few days they will activate the page that will allow you to submit an online payment (and give info on how much that is). I'd email SON, but I figure the more of our emails they get, the less time they have to get all this stuff ready for us... plus, it's early still.
  11. Applcation, I addressed mine to the School of Nursing. Anybody in the department will know what it is as soon as they open it. Still no updates on my CWL site yet. I'm also looking into obtaining my immunization records. I think Fraser Health should have records (for those who grew up around here) and from when my sister went into her Dental program, I remember it taking a while to get!
  12. I've just printed off my complete e-mail and signed it. I'm going to drop it in the mail tonight (eager, much?). I've checked on the CWL site and the offers (or mine, at least) have not been opened up on that site yet. I got the understanding that they require both a signed hardcopy, in addition to accepting the offer on the CWL site. I'd really like to start getting things ready (like CPR Certification, Immunization record, etc.). Hope to get that info soon!
  13. Just recieved my acceptance letter! Congrats to everyone else, and see you all in the fall!
  14. Eeep... now I just want to enjoy not knowing (aka not having to face potential dissapointment!)
  15. I haven't heard... Pretty sure you're not missing anything...yet. I have heard of different professions that have only one of the two holidays (Friday & Monday) off, so I find it a little more reasonable to think we might hear tomorrow!
  16. Hmmm...lots of talk of envelopes... I wonder if we will be hearing by email or snail mail?
  17. Thank-you K_mb and Cinnamonlatte! Really helpful (and a little boost of confidence) to know that I haven't been skipping much-needed study sessions for this thing! Big week for lots of people, here's hoping we all have a few hectic weeks ahead of us to keep our minds off the interviews and pending results!!!
  18. For anyone reading this forum who has been through this process (k_mb, diffindo, etc.) what type of preparation did you do? I have been browsing the Canadian Ethics Guide for Nursing, and actually spending a lot of time on here reading up about recent issues with nursing, but is there anything you did (or didn't do) that you remember using in your interview, or feeling glad about having reviewed or brushed up on? Thanks!
  19. I am NOT a UBC student, in fact, although I am a born-and-raised Vancouverite, I did my schooling, B.Sc. and M.Sc. in the USA. I was pretty worried about how much weight my degrees would hold, as I have learned that Canadian- and B.C.-educated students are highly favored.
  20. My last name starts with H, and I had my application in on Dec. 31st. My interview is April 12th in the morning. I was a little surprised to be assigned a time; I kind of expected to have a block of times to choose from. Oh well... good luck to everyone!
  21. Interview invitation recieved! :) Boy, I thought I was nervous waiting for the email...pfft, that's nothing compared to how I'm feeling now! Good luck to everyone else! Just reading from last few years' posts, the invitations were sent out over many days, so keep that in mind and good luck!
  22. Well...before I start giving tips, I should make sure my application was good enough! Hopefully have 'words of wisdom' to share in a day or so! As far as working alongside nurses, no I do not. Many would think my job falls within the realm of nursing as I work alongside a surgeon, and it certainly is a great warm-up for (hopefully) what's to come.
  23. Thanks Sanfrancisco! Another 48 hours to breath! :)
  24. Hi everyone, I have also applied to the UBC nursing program and am still awaiting the admissions decision... Anyone heard anything yet? I submitted my application on January 1st, but I don't really think the time you submit determines when you hear back. So nervous, but good luck to everyone!
  25. Just wondered if anyone has any insight regarding the competitveness of applying to the accelerated UBC program, as a 3rd year student? I have a Bachelor's and Master's in Biology (medical concentration as I was originally considering med school), lots of hospital and other volunteer hours, research, and extracurriculars. I have heard it is incredibly competitive, and can't seem to get a straight-forward response from emailing contacts on the UBC nursing website. Any thoughts? Much appreciated:)
