I am having trouble getting a PCT job in Georgia...
you also might want to look at jobs at DAVITA or FRESENIUS. From my understanding...they train you on the job regarding dialysis. If you go to some of the job websites and type in patient care technician...then you will see a lot of dialysis jobs...good luck

10 points from being lpn "program ready" should i transfer credits?
thanks vindy for replying. My academic advisor gave me a pamphlet with websites to check out for practicing. I am hoping i do well this time...i go in for the retest feb 21. I have decided that i don't think i will transfer the credit if things don't go as planned. I haven't been in college in YEARS....so i have come to the point that what ever happens on feb 21 is what it is.

10 points from being lpn "program ready" should i transfer credits?
I didn't know where to place this thread...so i decided this would be the best place. Here is my situtation: I have a bachelor degree in another field...graduated 2002. Okay i haven't been in school in LONG time...not even for credit courses. Okay..today i went to take the entrance/battery tests to see where i am at in terms of where they would place me at in the program. I am going for the LPN program. SOOOO i had a GREAT score in Reading and Writing and Pre-Algebra. My score for algebra was 11 points from being program ready (to begin taking the pre-courses before the main courses....med term, a&p, etc, etc). So the academic advisor said that i could transfer my math from the previous college and that would automatically make me program ready for the pre-courses. BUT she said that if i decide to take the remedial (sp?) maths....then i would have to take (example:math 1, 2, 3 and math 4 would be the one that would count toward being chosen for the lpn program along with the TEAS). She said it is up to me...that even though i could transfer my math credit...my score was low on the battery test for math and program ready mean just that...program ready. How i feel and think: Yeah transferring my math credit would be great...it would save me a year of math on an lpn program that is only 15 months in length by itself. On the other hand...when i did the test today...some of those problems i guessed because i had no earthly idea how to solve the problem. I am only 11 points from the LPN math...but we are talking about people's lives...so i do not want to go into a math class doing calculations and not "getting it". On the other hand on the last math i take will count toward the selection process and the other maths before that will be "refresher courses". Sorry that this post is long...but: How hard is med math? Do you need a firm/solid foundation in algebra to "get" med math? What would you do in my shoes? Would you take a year of math and then take the 15 months of LPN studies? I take this very seriously and i am not trying to "get" out of taking the remedial math. I know nursing means taking someone's life in my hands literally. thanks for any help...oh yeah...i have until feb 24 to retest on the algebra.

PCT/CNA Schools in the North Fulton/Atlanta Area
Hi Raemarr, Sorry to hear about your experience at NEW HORIZONS. I reread my post and meant to say that "the admission coordinator DIDN'T seem prepared at NEW HORIZONS." Elite is more expensive, but they are running a discount special for this month. I went to ELITE and i asked the coordinator if they offered night PCT classes and she told me "yes" and it was for Monday-Wednesday. She also told me the CNA was offered at night and that the classes run Mon-Wed. She also told me that whatever class schedule you take, that is the time your clinicals would start. I was a little hesitant because i have never heard of night clinicals...weekend yes....night clinicals...no. SO i asked her about three times to make sure. I work a full and part time job and i would be giving up my part time gig just to attend school. Well they called me this past week and she must have forgotten what she told me because she said the CNA part of the CNA/PCT combo was Mon-THURS 6-10 (not Mon-WED). she also told me that the PCT part was days only Mon-THURS. I told her i couldn't go to school during the day because of my full time job. She told me to jump on the special and they would work out the PCT program for the night shift...she said they were trying to start a night PCT and that after i get my CNA done...there would probably be a lag because it takes time to get night classes filled:uhoh3: I told her i would think about it. I do not doubt this school is great at what they do...BUT..you gotta keep your facts straight. I didn't know that they do not offer the EKG certification. I have been to numerous medical training facilities and none have tickled my fancy as of yet. I don't expect them to roll out the red carpet...but give me some kind of warm welcome...i assume they have such a high influx of people from the economy...so my little money wouldn't make or break them. I am trying to do my homework. I am going to try Norcross Institute of Allied Health and Metro Medical Training (which is in Smyrna, a little far...but they offer great specials and they have a schedule that fits me...we will see). I think a lot of these medical training places are popping up to make a buck off the desperate people in these trying times. The highest that i have seen was $3500 for the PCT simple ridiculous....and you had to complete the CNA which was about $550. Sorry to ramble on...good luck to you!

PCT/CNA Schools in the North Fulton/Atlanta Area
hi raemarr, this reply is waaaayyy late...but i wanted to know if you ever went to New Horizons Medical Institute? I went to two schools today regarding the CNA/PCT combo...New Horizons in Norcross and Elite Medical in Norcross. I didn't get a good feeling from New Horizons when i went today. I had set an appointment the week prior, but the admission coordinator did seem prepared. She was nice, but i felt like i had came while she was in the middle of something...even though i arrived a few minutes early. She answered my questions...but it was the way she came off. She told me that clinicals are held for the CNA....but PCT clinicals are no longer offered. She said that the doctor offices that use to support the clinicals have now declined because of the liability on their (the doctors) insurance. I personally think something else...but i digress. Anyway i went to Elite and the coordinator seemed more on the ball to me. Clinicals are for both the PCT and CNA course. I am still trying to decide when i will take the courses this month or next month.
