Grapefruit increases the amount of caffeine in your body. So if the patient is taking meds that interact with grapefruit, or if she has coffee and then takes in grapefruit it could be bad. I don't know but if you find out the answer let us know!

Heres another thought. Do you know if he is taking any diuretics? in order to reduce the edema? and at the same time, the IV is for risk of dehydration? total guess right now. if pitted edema +1, +2, +3 to check for right heart failure. But i'll probably would say SOB because of the obesity haha

I also had a pt who had edema and cellulitis. and cellulitis possibly caused the edema. Im sure the foot? is really big yeah? did u listen to lung sounds and hear crackles? if theres none, then its probably not from the CHF. but i am def not a hundred percent sure about this. and maybe he's on IV to increase cardiac output maybe? hows his blood pressure? Actually i have no idea, I am just putting things out there. I would also like to know....

We all know that everything seems to be a dead end when it comes to becoming a nurse. it does take passion to become one. getting into nursing school is just the beginning. the work, the studying, is another step. Try taking just one step at a time if you really want to become one. Every new grad nurse has gone through it. and some are twice your age. You can do it, maybe nurse is or isnt for you and no one can say it is or isnt. But nurses do CNA LVN, and RN work. if CNA's and LVN messed up, then the RN is responsible. so we have to know and deal with the cool and dirty work. Let me give you some hints. I have clinicals at Sharp hospitals, and there are only RN's and 2 CNA's. the RNs clean almost everything, because it is always about the patient. Instead of thinking what you can handle, become a CNA and learn a part of RNs work. I agree CNA job's suck, because i am one, and being yelled at by the RNs and lVN sucks, but seeing happy, clean, healthy patients makes the job worth what you do. sorry if any of my grammar suks but i wrote this all on my iphone. go to assist.org and research. enjoy it. everything you learn in nursing is good knowledge to maintain a healthy lifestyle too. goodluck man. 27 isnt that old. btw. you still got years ahead of u. especially if ustart now.

Hi My nursing school is the same. B+ starts at 92% Here is my advice. Read the book. Expect long studying hours. Form good productive studying groups. Try to make your own rationales together. See how others think and their opinions. There are more than one right rationale. Get interested with the subject along with your peers. Nurses work together, student nurses work together. Try it.

First of all Yale only has a Masters and Doctoral Degree in Nursing. So lets say a Kaplan Graduate Vs Cal State Long Beach applies at a hospital for the New grad program No experience Cal State Long Beach will probably get the interview, or both. Cal State Long Beach will probably get the job due to the factor of it is a great school. But lets say a Kaplan Graduate has experience and the Cal State Long Beach graduate doesn't. Kaplan Graduate will get the job. or If a kaplan graduate finishes with a 3.6 and the Cal State finishes with a 2.7 then yeah Kaplan gets the job. If you were a patient, working under the care of an RN graduated from Kaplan with an A- average(3.5 or better) or a Cal State with a C+ (2.7 or better average), the patient will feel more comfortable with Kaplan's Student. Nursing is Nursing. I am not denying facts. What you are saying is true, to different aspects. Kaplan does have a bad reputation mainly cuz it is a for-profit institution. But the ADN program is legit and the outcome (job wise): you will get a job if you work for it.

Do you know how hard it is to get into UCLA nursing program? Only a few people gets in their program, and don't forget the drop outs at UCLA. And thats for every school, including Kaplan. I'll admit that if i had a choice to go to UCdavis or Kaplan. I would go to UC Davis. But right now, there are people working towards to get in a Nursing Program 3+ years ago, where I've just decided to change my major from Engineering to Nursing 2 years ago. I've tried to get into nursing programs but its hard. I'll admit i could've worked harder but i blew my chances. Kaplan is getting me a step to become a Register Nurse into the door. Where it is still possible to get into other school's program afterwards. Do employers hire Kaplan Grads? Yes. Do employers hire graduates from other schools? Yes. Platinum* are you becoming a nurse? If everybody who wants to be a nurse has the attitude of not convincing themselves that they have the chance, then they won't have the chance at all. Experience is the key. Get the new grad position. Then you'll have the job for life. THe difficulty is the new grad position, but those seasonal jobs will give you the experiences hospital look for. That first job might not be the job you want but thats a life of a rookie nurse. Kaplan grads are getting RN jobs They have a chance. Everybody has the chance. (except for those with a criminal record)

Kaplan ADN program starts twice a year. January and September. Now they are trying to bring more people in since the Kaplan Commitment has started. You need to get 80's on your teas to get in and few with under 80 gets in. Yes they are accepting more people, but they are also advertising more places in the nation. Goodluck to all.

Here is what i know. I am in the program since september. And everything is amazing. and a great experience so far. There are graduated students that visit back to say Hi to their formers teacher and all tell the current students what Job they got. Kaplan in San Diego is the only Kaplan College that has the ADN program. And every nursing student knows and says that "nursing is nursing". It does not matter what school you go into. If you see a RN at a hospital and he/she puts in an IV, that RN learned the same experience, regulation, and rules like every nursing student. Learned from the same books, using the same medical terminology, and taking the same NCLEX board exam. Kaplan can be transferred to Kaplan University or University of Phoenix where they are accredited by the AACN. just like all other schools. I put lots of time and money into this ADN program, and my friends at school, and the teacher provides us a big passion into nursing. You will never hear anything positive about Kaplan because people who are successful, are busy with their great lives and successful people don't complain what makes them successful. Nursing for new grads in general are hard to get. People from great top nursing schools are having a hard time too. But Kaplan Grads are landing jobs just as well as others.

It is very smart, and not regrettable to try to find help for a hoyer lift. If you aren't comfortable doing a hoyer lift by yourself, then find help. So good job on that. Unfortunately, if you feel like theres a clique, left out, everyone is against your side... then you are becoming a CNA. I see people in cliques that are against each other. I've worked at two places, and i got hired at 5 different places, and I have turned down the 3-4 places because right when i walk in, i see huge cliques. It is important to find the right group to work with. It is true, my employees stresses me out more than the patients. Which is not good. But to end this, just keep doing your best and don't let them get to you. As long as your residents are well taken care of, you'll be fine.

Just by reading this Forum. It seems like you cared that much that you were 12 minutes late and everything was just a busy day for you. Especially when you are a new CNA, the veterans are always trying to make the new CNA's have a hard time. I worked at a very poor LTC for a long time, and I dealt the worse, but now i work at a brand new place. After having a lot of experience, being the new CNA at the facility still makes me feel like i just got my license. Don't sweat over all that. Being 12 minutes late is not a good thing, but what can you do about it? It sucks because you have to catch up the 12 minutes u lost. There are lots of Anal nurses and I'll agree to that. but a LTC is very stressful. If i were them i would've told you in a more professional manner. But the way it sounds, you are doing well, and still learning. You'll get there, trust me. Plus its hard to make a living as a CNA. I am currently a CNA in RN school. As long as you are still in school, you will be fine. Good job!

kcw100 they test for the main drugs that medical employers and schools do not want. If you are worried that your sleeping pills are going to affect your drug results, contact your doctor that prescribed you the pills and ask him/her if the drugs will affect a drug urine test. If still, every drug has a decay rate. Maybe wait at least 48 hours after u taken the drug. DO NOT DRINK WATER AND/OR POPPYSEED before your drug test! CAUTION: If you fail the drug test, you may not apply ever again, or after a year. I forgot what the rule is.

Yes it is very important for you to do the background and drug test or else they won't accept your application. I am in the program and my advisor told me we have to.

I got in the program last september. The SLE (wonderlic) test u must score 24 or better. it consists of fast thinking math and vocab. If you want to get in the program aim an 80% or higher on the TEAS. You only get 2 chances at kaplan and 3 at other places. Try to get it on your first try. If you were in the PCAT i believe you can apply, i did the NATP program and worked for 6 months. They included my 2 months at kaplan as experience. If you guys score high on the teas and wonderlic but do not have any medical experience then your chances are really low. I actually dont think the DON will look at your application. If you are a kaplan graduate then your chances are much higher too. (remember its a profit school). if you get a 79.4% on your teas you might get in but you must be very lucky with how many drop out or score higher. but if u got that score take it again and try to get 80 or higher. 78% and below are almost impossible. If you do not get in and you get a 78-81% on your teas. Call kaplan and ask the DON if you got in as an alternate because sometimes they don't let you know. so far the program is really great. i am learning a lot, but dont think its going to be easy through out. you have to study all the time. but everyone who gets in usually try to work together so everyone would do well.i love my classmates bcuz they are really supportive as well i am to them. After this application process, you should NOT compete with your fellow classmates, just try to score high and everybody will help. One of my classmates has 7-8 classes in one semester. but one of my classmates has only 2 classes (transfered classes). I have 5 and like all colleges, the tests may come back to back but if you work hard it shouldn't be a problem. If you got 85% percent or higher on your teas and 24 on SLE and have medical experience, you're pretty much in. Want to prepare? Start memorizing 206 bones in our body for anatomy. :)

if its true that anyone over 75% is considered then we are pretty much set! Whats up class mates hahah i really want to get in this program so i could quit my job, go on vacation and study hard. If i don't then i don't quit my job and i don't have a vacation and i have to work hard. so hopefully i get it. the bad news is that i havent met anyone who got an 80% and got in. Well i haven't met anyone who got an 80%

What do you know about the TEAS score and how you get accepted to the program? From the students in your class what is the TEAS score range and how did you or they get in? After hearing about how we can get in, we'll worry about what goes on in the program!

I believe you get a call and a letter in the mail. The call will come first and the letter will come a lil later. Thats what it sounds like in the past threads. And ull still get a call and a letter if u get rejected. I really hope we all get in.

O and dont forget kaplan is a for profit higher education college so being a kaplan grad is the way they can get easy money. But hey if thats how u can get in the rn program then why not?

My admission rep told me that the pre reqs gpa or any transfer credits does NOT help nor effect your application. Because kaplan's system is pretty fair. Students who did not go to college or went straight after highschool has the same advntage as someone who went to college for 3 years. The teas test is the biggest priority of getting in. Then its your experience in the field. If you are a kaplan graduate is a HUGE advantage. If u have a degree helps u bcuz u could use that as experience. Also the RN info session explained it all too. If you went to the info session also helped your application. It is mandatory. I hope this helped and made sense. So pre reqs grades and other gpa does not effect your application. Unless you failed a class in kaplan.

Hey fliptobeanurse. The DON does not look at that at all. A lot of people are at Kaplan to start over and have the second chance. Yeah that sounds tough. Kaplan isnt that hard you just have to get a 75% or higher on each class and 77% or higher on anatomy psyology. And then you will be ready to take the nclex. Whats the passing rate of the program at west coast? Nursing school is hard, and its going to be hard. Kaplan is going to be hard. But as long as u work hard and to all "i wanna become a nurse" people, you got to work together sometimes. So if we get into the program im sure you'll make your moneys worth and pass the nclex! Dont worry you deserve to get in as much as all of us.

Why else would our admission rep seem to say not to worry? April was my admission rep. and shes been supportive so far. I think if u have a Degree in something else that would be a big boost too.

Hey man or girl? In my teas section just one person got higher than me. And there were about 15 people in my testing section. Are you a kaplan graduate? PCAT is Patient Care assistant technician. And CNA is Certified Nursing Assistant. PCAT can work in a hospital and give out shots and do other things like that. CNA can't. But other than that theres not that much difference. At kaplan PCAT is 15000 and CNA is 6000 so thats another difference. PCAT takes about 8 months so... I have CNA experience for about 6 months. And i graduated from Kaplan. Kaplan graduates has a priority for RN program. By the looks of the stacks it seems like 100-160. Maybe half of that are Kaplan graduates. maybe a quarter of those people got a score between 75-80 so i am still worried. Also i am sure theres a few people who failed the background check and urine drug test. about 60-70 people get in including alternates. Thats what i learned from the RN info section. But i was tempted to take the TEAS test again and i wish i did so i didn't have to be this stressed out about it. My admission rep is ----. I worked with her at this school since CNA and she told me the same thing. Not to worry that i have a high score and that i am prob gunna get in. She even gave me a high five! so i think it will be ok. But my luck could be bad and have 80 people with 80% or higher. i hope we do get in. Actually it will be funny if we stressed out for nothing.
