Yeah, I applied to tons of jobs at the royal alec...both LPN and HCA jobs. I think being a new grad, you just gotta get out there and get experience.

lol, I was like that too when I first started school, but now I don't think I would mind it. Well, working in one of the newer nicer assisted living facilities.

Job Bank - Home I've applied to a few jobs from there too. That is where I got the pharmacy job from. There are quite a few retirement home jobs on there.

I am a new LPN grad from Ontario Canada that recently moved to Edmonton Alberta due to my husband being in the military. I have applied to tons of jobs in the hospitals here which is where I really want to work, but have had no luck yet. Maybe once I get my license I'll have better luck, as I just wrote my exam a couple weeks ago. Anyways, I ended up getting a job in homecare that is didn't like at all. But I got lucky and recently got a job with a specialty pharmacy as a nurse. I've been training there for 1 week and I actually really enjoy it. It's Monday-Friday 9-5 kind of job, going to assisted living facilities / retirement homes for a couple hours do to a blood pressure clinic, deliver medications, answer client questions, advocate for clients. My issue with this job is that I am not using any nursing skills and I am afraid I will lose them. I want to stay with this job as long as I can though.

Thank you for this information! I think my mom still thinks nursing is the same from when she graduated 20+ years ago. She did the RN diploma program at the same college I am doing the RPN program. She says I won't have an orientation and I won't know how to document their way of documenting and I won't know anyone...etc. Her opinion on this is just really stressing me out. I've tried to explain to her my view on this and she still does not like it. I am meeting with my practicum co-ordinator next week to discuss my (moms) concerns.

Hi, I am just looking for some general advice / opinions. I am in my last semester of Practical Nursing at a college in Ontario. I'd like to do my consolidation out in Edmonton, Alberta where my husband is currently based in the military. (we moved to Edmonton from Ontario this past summer). I am working with my school's practicum officer to make this happen, however my mom (who is an RN) does not think going out there for consolidation is a good idea because I will not know the hospital or their way of doing things. I don't think it's as big of a deal as she thinks. The hospital I am hoping to get into is the University of Alberta hospital which is a teaching hospital. Does anyone here happen to work at that hospital to tell me what it's like? Do you think it's a bad idea to do consolidation in a province I will eventually be living in ?

I took the Health Prep general arts & science before getting into nursing as well, and I would say get your grades as high as you can 90's are great but 80's are still pretty good too. I think I had low to mid 80's. I am pretty sure you will have better chance of being accepted for RPN, by just being a previous Durham student. Hi ! I am a RPN student (2nd year) and just doing a little research project about Canadian Military nurses. I'm just looking for some information about where you work, what kind of things you do, etc. Also, I believe that in order to be a Nursing Officer you must be a RN, correct? So, if I am a RPN/LPN and want to become a Nursing Officer, will they pay for my education to become a RN? (my husband is in the Military so I know a little about it, but I just would like information from someone who has possibly been through it) Thanks!!

I am a second year RPN student at Durham. The schedules are already laid out in 'blocks' and you just pick the one that best suits your needs. With General Arts & Science there are quite a few to choose from, and I'm sure if you speak with the student liaison (I believe her name is Heather), she will gladly help you out to try and make your schedule fit your needs.
