ALiB1205 no problem I completely understand. Anyway things have changed for me dramatically in the last week; My Mom was diagnosed with cancer and I am the primary caregiver here so I am going to stay here and go to nursing school - I got accepted locally the day after we found out and I knew I was not going to get to go to NO so I guess it all works out for the best. It will take me longer but with my Mom's condition I would have never made it down there worrying about her and feeling guilty because I wasn't here to support her. Prognosis is very good but working for an oncologist I know what she has facing her for the next several months. Good luck to all of you!!!

I am moving from Shreveport so not that far but I am still finishing up my last pre-reqs so its going to be hard to get down there and look for anything before December. I hate driving so am hoping to find something close if I can swing it financially but also want to be somewhere fairly safe so any advice is appreciated. I have not been back since Katrina and I know things have changed a great deal. Congrats on getting selected.

Hi yes I would be interested in rooming after checking prices of places on the Internet. I spoke with the lady at Tulane and she said just tuition will run about $16,000 not counting books, uniforms, etc. I am having serious second doubts now as to whether I can pull this off financially. Just so you know I am an older student (in my 50's) so if you are wanting someone younger I understand. Let me know if you are interested. I don't know how to PM on this site yet so respond to me and we can figure out a way to contact each other prior to the Orientation to talk.

I got my letter yesterday. How did you know start date is Janyuary 15? My letter did not give a date and I have been on the phone all morning trying to get someone to tell me and give me an idea of final tuition costs - no luck. If you have any insight please give me a reply back. Also are you from N.O.? I will be needing a place to live and am looking on advice as to where I should look. Thanks

Sure thing if I ever hear anything - it does not bode well that it is taking them this long to decide since we turned in our applications over 2 months ago. But I am still hoping I made it and can pull this off.

I spoke with OLOL today and they said the applications have been forwarded to Tulane but no decisions on applicants has been made so far - they could not give me any idea of when we might hear. Makes it hard to make plans to move to N.O. and get ready if we get told last minute!!

The accelerated at OLOL does not require TEAS as part of the application process although they do for their regular ADN program. I kept getting notices from them about not having my TEAS scores and after multiple conversations they finally got it that I was only applying for the accelerated and they assured me TEAS scores are not required for the application but if accepted we will have to take it to give them a better idea of our level of knowledge. I have not heard any more from them so assume my application for accelerated is in process of review. Sure hope they don't take forever letting us know something. Hope this helps.

    Accepted into accelerated OLOL Tulane!!

Saw where you were in the OLOL program at Tulane. I have applied for Spring 2011 and wanted to get some insight from someone who is finishing the program. Also how long did it take to hear from them after application deadline?

Got lucky and found a correspondence course from LSU that OLOL will accept in place of the religion class they offer. I have finished my app but I still need Micro which I am taking this fall - they said that is fine but I wonder how many actually get accepted that still have prereqs to do. Oh, well I will keep plugging along and get them done and if I don't get in Jan I will apply for the ones in the Spring. Also I asked admissions about the 6 hours at OLOL required and they said that was only for the traditional and would not apply to those in the accelerated - hope this info is right!!

Am I too old to start a nursing career?

Wow this was a great blog for me to find. I am 57 and just applied to nursing school so its nice to hear that some older people do make it in and succeed in finishing and getting jobs. I have had so many people be negative about me doing this that I was beginning to wonder if I had made a huge mistake. I am hoping I get in an accelerated program but am applying every where I can in my area. I already have a business degree but after being out of the business job market for several years when I tried to get back in all I got was overqualified (which I think really means too old). I looked at my options because like many I will probably being working till I die I decided to do something in the health field. I had always wanted to be a nurse but back then everyone told you go for the business degree - nurses don't make anything and are porrly treated. So the wheel has turned and here I am finally going back to school to do something I dreamed of doing 40 years ago. Wish me luck!

Bundi356 can you tell me me what online class you are taking for the Religion 101 requirement? Thanks for the replies and I am looking locally but so far no luck - the only class I found is during the day and I work fulltime so can only do online or night classes. Hate to think this one class might keep me out (assuming I get accepted!)

Thanks I will look into those. I tried talking to the admissions office about this and where I could take a course and they were not real helpful so I appreciate the responses.

I just finished sending in my application for the Jan 2011 accelerated program and am not feeling great after reading all the posts. I still need that Religion 101 class and I don't live in Baton Rouge and cannot find one on line to take. Any suggestions? I am finishing Micro and Micro lab this fall. I am much older so am wondering now if I even have a chance. I am not worried about the hard work just whether they consider older people as candidates. I know they say they don't discriminate because of age but you never know for sure. Any suggestions on the Religion course? I have looked at the transfer equivalents and can't find an online alternative. Any help is appreciated.
