  1. I know this post is a little old but I wanted to ask about the same topic. I've already posted on here before because I want to move to Alberta. I'm planning to try to apply for an Alberta RN license now so that it will look better when I apply as well as be easier for me if I do get a job because I'll already have the license. Our nursing standards are different in Ontario and also when I went to school, for each single indicator and there was probably like 75 of them or more, we had to describe a situation in which we achieved that indicator. So what I'm wondering is, for the application when you apply for an Alberta license on assessing your practice compared to the nursing standards are you suppose to describe situations that prove you have achieved that indicator? Or are you just suppose to put notes if they are pertinent and check off if you need to focus on that indicator for the year? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am also afraid of asking my employer for a referral letter for the application not because of my work but because I think she'll be upset that I'm planning to try to move to Alberta especially when I dont think i'll end up applying until the spring. I'm still saving up money for a cross country move :)
  2. Hahaha actually I'm totally a country girl at heart and the GTA mentally especially the fact I actually work in Toronto is kind of killing me. Also I've been having a hard time breathing here in the summer because its so humid and I actually love the winter so I'm not afraid, I use to work at a ski hill where I worked in -45 before, and our lame hills are definitely nothing compared to your wicked mountains Alberta can bring on all the weather it wants cause I know I'll be happier there. I'm going to apply for an Alberta license in the new year because I've been told you can have two at once, that way when I apply hopefully it'll look better to employers if they see that I'm definitely commited to moving there.
  3. Thanks soooo much! I actually just got back from Alberta on Sunday, did a little scouting mission and visited my family. I absolutely love it there. I'm planning to start applying in the new year and I'm definetly not going to give up. At some point I will be living and working in Alberta I've been comparing prices from here and there and I mean there is positives and negatives to both places, I think in the end it kind of evens out but despite that, the kind of lifestyle I want to be living is not in the GTA area lol. On my days off if I lived in Alberta I'd be doing more outdoor activities.
  4. Thank you soooo much for the information so far! It makes me feel a lot better because it still gives me hope for moving there. It's really frustrating the way the nursing shortage and freeze is across the country. Last year I had friends move as far as Vancouver, there just weren't any jobs here. Even now I was extremely lucky to get the job I have. Regardless, if it is possible to find a job out in Alberta next year then I know it will be a better overall quality of life for me. I do have family out there, they just know nothing about then nursing situation. Does anyone know if you can apply for an Alberta license if you currently have one from another province? I have been trying to look it up online but cannot seem to find much information.
  5. Hey Everyone, I'm really hoping I could get some input from some Alberta nurses. I currently an RN in Ontario, graduated and got my license this year. I am working fulltime at a Toronto Hospital and although I love my job to be honest I cannot stand Ontario, I'm a country girl at heart and I really want a change in my life. For alot of reasons I would like to move to Alberta sometime next year. Can anyone give me any advice about moving to Alberta and nursing there? Is it true that Alberta lays off a lot of nurses? How is the general nursing situation? Any information would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.
  6. If they had put a message on the CNO website giving information I'm sure it would have saved them a tonne of hassle from people calling them and bugging them
  7. The stress and anxiety that the CNO has put us through is absolutely freaking ridiculous. Since the deadline to apply to write the October exam is July 26th, it is a bunch of bull that if I do happen to fail that I might miss the deadline to sign up to write in October. I don't care how many people wrote this exam in Ontario, it was scantron. You put it in a machine and you get marks, it shouldn't take over 6 weeks to decide how to adjust the exam or what questions to remove. My job depends on me passing and I have put so many things on hold like signing up for courses to see whether I pass or not. If they want us to stop calling and harassing them they better snap to it. I cannot believe that I paid so much money for the prep guides, the exam itself, the temp license and hopefully the full license to be so stressed out by them. The least they can do is send them out at the 6 weeks like they said.
