Hi guys, I just realized I replied on another thread that I commented on originally, but not this one. I just started at UNC's ABSN program this January. Its fantastic and crazy- just what I hoped for ;-) Anyway, I'm writing about my journey to becoming a nurse on my blog.

Hi guys! I'm just starting the ABSN program at UNC tomorrow! My expected graduation date is May 2012. Also, if anyone has questions about the application process of either Duke or UNC, I would be happy to help, as I went through the process and was accepted by both. :-)

I got possibly the most confusing acceptance letter ever. It was postmarked on Oct 20th. Its says something like "We are pleased to inform you that we have notified the University's Office of Undergraduate Admissions of our recommendation to offer you admission to the Spring/January cohort of the 4-term...., Class of 2012. Why do they word it like that? Then, I got a acceptance form to mail back and the health policies. Does anyone know when we get our financial aid info? I can only go if I can get approved for loans.

I actually just gave up my spot b/c I couldn't get enough financial aid. I got a tiny grant ($600) and needed $34,000 in private loans. I couldn't get approved for loans because I had some bad things on my credit report, even though I had a decent cosigner. Good luck everyone!! I'm still hoping to get into UNC - maybe I could swing a smaller loan. Anyway, Good luck to everyone!

Hey guys, I found an answer to my question and I just wanted to update you. We do NOT have to have the background check completed until November 1. If you're in the same boat I am and don't have any $$ to spare, you can put it off until then. I personally am struggling with getting approved for loans as well. I know its very stressful and difficult. I'm trying to keep my chin up. Good luck to all of us. I'm sure something will work out. :)

In the letter it says we have to complete steps 1 and 3 by Oct 1. Step 2 was the background check. We probably have a little longer to complete that although it does not say when exactly. Does anyone else know?

I started off in Shelburne and then moved to Richmond/Jonesville, which is about 30 minutes from Burlington. I would love to move back some day, but not for the winters!!

glassprn- I lived in Vermont for 13 years. I actually just visited in April :-) Enjoy the fall I miss so much!

UNC usually lets people know late October or sometimes as late as mid-November, but its all a little vague. So at that pointe if a Duke Student changed their mind they would lose their $500 deposit, unless its refundable.

I've been moving all week and I finally had my inspection this afternoon, but I was too chicken to check b/c if i didn't get in I wouldn't have the will to finish moving out & cleaning. I just got home. I'm IN!!! Now I'm using the crazy Smilie:dancgrp: Congrats Everyone! Hugs to those who didn't. It has taken me 3 tries...

Oh....I don't know why the 16th is stuck in my head. Don't mind me, I'm moving right now and have all my dates confused. Sorry guys.

Well, the last group was there on Friday so they couldn't possibly meet and review everyone until Monday or Tuesday. Unless, they just stayed there all weekend Also, interesting fact.... my interviewer told me that they often don't know who actually got accepted until they see them at orientation. I think they are like objective surveyors or maybe they give their opinions, but don't participate in the end process of putting everything together piece by piece. AHHH! I'm so excited I can't stand it! Good luck to everyone! May we all have the patience to last until we hear the decisions. Serenity Now! (anyone? )

They said that the committee is meeting the week of the 16th. I'm hoping that means we will hear sometime Monday- Friday. Oh dear. I wonder if we all find out at the same time...

Hi guys! Wow! Yesterday was amazing. I loved every second....except maybe the financial aid part, which made me nervous-lol. Anyway, you guys were right! I thought the interviews were the most fun part of the day! M&S were so super nice!!! It was honestly just PERFECT. There were so many amazing applicants that of course I am nervous, but it feels good to have done all that I could do. And now- we wait...

Oh Dear. I'm already so excited for tomorrow that I can't eat! Does anyone know what traffic is like in the morning coming from south of Raleigh? I'm driving from Fayetteville, NC. I'll probably just leave way too early anyway! Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Wow- thanks again for the wonderful information! I'm so excited for August 6th to get here! Is anyone willing to share what they wore or what other people wore? I'm a little concerned about the extreme heat lately. Also, does anyone know if I would have time to ditch my suit coat after the interview portion (quick trip out to my car)? Okay, my last question is how many people brought someone along with them? I would like hubby to come with me, but I don't want to stick out too much if I'm the only one bringing someone else along. Its good to know that you went in and came out okay I don't know what I'm expecting, but I tend to get nervous, talk fast, giggle, (not very charming for interviews)... Anyway, I feel more peaceful now. I am kind of jealous that you guys have the interviews over with already! I can't wait until we're all waiting in anticipation together Can you believe that we will all probably know in the next 30-40 days??

azncutie10282, i wouldn't worry about it. i called the office a few weeks before the deadline to ask about supplemental information and they said it was okay for it to trickle in as long as the application was submitted on time. when did you take the gre? i think the web site said a combined gre score of 1000 was okay (or probably somewhere around there). i'm planning on wearing a skirt, casual suit coat, panty hose, and nice flats. i'm also planning to only wear the suit coat for the interview. hopefully, i'll have time during a break to lock it in my car. i have no idea if we will have the interviews in the morning or afternoon. hopefully, some of the ladies that go on the 16th will feel generous in sharing advice ncemt, go for the hose! you can always ditch them later (maybe). glassprn, congrats! i'll see you on the 6th :)

Hi all :) I also applied for the Duke 2011 Spring entry. I requested my interview for the August 6th date b/c we will be moving on or around the earlier dates. I'm very nervous about the interview, especially if they ask a lot about future plans! There are a few areas I am especially interested in, but honestly, I was hoping to keep a very open mind going into nursing school and really feel out which areas felt most rewarding. That probably sounds to cheesy to share with an interview committee I know this has already been asked a few times, but what are you planning to wear? I'm guessing we won't have time to change, but I would really like to wear a nice dress instead of a suit, since I don't have any non-winter suits. Well, I guess I better get started on this scholarship/financial aid research. I was hoping I would be able to fill this info out after I find out if I got in, but alas I am behind. I wish I could quit my job to just prep for this 24/7, but I imagine we are all very busy and trying to prep at the same time I've really enjoyed reading over this thread and I'm so thankful for all the information that has been shared! You guys are awesome and I hope we will be classmates in the spring!!! :flwrhrts:
