  1. Still waiting to hear back from UNE regarding my waitlist status. I emailed them today to inquire about the current status of students on the waitlist and will let you guys know when I hear back.
  2. Nothing yet for me. Still hopeful, but also working on prerequisites for other programs. Keep us posted if you hear back!
  3. Oh boy that would be tough! Well I am hopeful I will find out before then, but if need be I would have to just figure it out. Thanks for the feedback!
  4. Has anyone else been placed on the waitlist? If so have any of you heard back from UNE yet? I was sent a letter in early December about being placed on the waitlist. Unfortunately, the school has offered little insight in the how many people they have placed on the waitlist. Also, they told me they do not have a deadline for accepted students to declare intent, so it sounds like I could be waitlisted for quite some time.
  5. Haven't heard anything yet. Did send an email to inquire and will let you guys know when they get back to me.
  6. Hey Guys So I just found out that Care New England (the company that owns memorial hospital) is seeking approval to close Memorial Hospital. Not sure what this means for those of us who have applied. I plan on sending an email to the program director to see if I can get more information. 7. Great to hear you have an interview. Good luck!
  8. Looks like I am the only one posting in this thread. Hopefully there will be more activity as the application deadline nears. I have been offered an interview for the May 2018 start date. I would love to hear from others who have applied and hope that you guys receive interview invites as well! Does anyone know details about clinical placements via UNE? Looks like they have a lot of different clinical placements throughout the USA and I was curious as to which sites are used as "primary" clinical sites and which are enrichment sites. Would love to be placed in a clinical site in MA as that would be the best spot for my girlfriend and I while I completed clinical. Good luck everyone and hope to hear from some of you soon!
  9. So awesome to hear from others who have applied! I just received an email today that the admissions committee will meet the first week of Oct to review applications. So hopefully they will start sending out interview offers not long after that. Looking over past threads on this site and other sites it seems they do interviews OCT to as late as DEC. Snow in New England can get bad at times for sure. Good thing is that Rhode Island tends to get less snow compared to the rest of New England due to its closer proximity to the ocean. So hopefully you won't have to shovel too much!
  10. Hey: Not sure how many people on the forum are applying to Memorial Hospital of RI but I figured I would post some updates. I sent my application in on Sept 4th and received a post card in the mail today stating that they have received my application. It goes on to state that they will contact me if they require any more information and to setup and interview. Sounds like they will send out interview requests after the September 30th application deadline when the admissions committee meets to review the applications. Hope to hear from more people who are applying to this school, would be nice to get to know and support others trying to get into the program!
  11. Hello Everyone! Looking to hear from others who have applied to the UNE CRNA program to start in May 2018. I applied earlier this month and figured it would be helpful to start a thread where we could share information. Best of luck to everyone! Anthony
  12. Hello! I have applied to the UNE CRNA program starting May 2018. I have looked over a lot of postings about the UNE program on this site and a number of other sites but can't seem to find feedback on their clinical portion of their program. Their website states that they offer a number of out of state clinical sites, and that all students will be required to rotate to a CRNA only facility. So my question is during clinical are you assigned a primary clinical site and do a one time rotation in a CRNA only facility, or do clinical sites change with each Clinical Practicum? Any feedback of current or past students in the program is welcomed. Thanks! Tony
  13. Hi I also applied to Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island for the 2018 start date. Living in CT, which is where the didactic portion of the program is based (Central Connecticut State University (CCSU)), I have worked with a number of nurses who have applied to this school as well as the other two anesthesia programs associated with CCSU. I recently worked with a travel RN who started the didactic portion of the program May 2017. Feedback from him was that the didactic portion was pretty intense with frequent testing and large amounts of material each week. He was working 36 hrs a week at the start of school, but he did tell me that it would be best to not work at all. Many coworkers who have attended the other anesthesia programs associated with CCSU echoed the same feedback. Feedback I have gotten has been that the program is very small and usually accepts 8 students. One of the CRNAs at my current hospital said that even though it is a small program he has been told that their clinical training is pretty good. I haven't learned much about the interview process, and most of the postings on this site that speak to the interview are from many years ago. regardless I would assume that the interview is largely unchanged because the same program director has headed the program for many years. Hope that helps and good luck!
  14. Hello! I am in the process of starting some of my CRNA applications and have been working on a personal statement for one of my applications. I seem to be having a hard time, more so due to the fact that the school limits length of the personal statement to 200-250 words, which has made it hard for me to fully answer the prompt provided. The Personal statement prompt is as follows: Please provide 200-250 words that provide a statement of purpose for your application to BLANK SCHOOL of anesthesia. Include a summary of your background, education, career, professional goals, and your reason for applying to the CRNA program. This is my ROUGH 1st Draft: After much introspection about my plans for advanced nursing education I always seem to find my way back to nurse anesthesia. Often times it seems that a nurse chooses to advance their career in a way that pulls them further from direct patient care. However, this is not my goal. To me nurse anesthesia offers the perfect blend of advanced practice and knowledge of human physiology while continuing to allow me hands on interaction with patients. I truly feel nurse anesthesia offers me the best opportunity to continue the aspects of critical care nursing that I love while fulfilling my desire to advance my nursing career and obtain new knowledge. Working in critical care over close to seven years has awarded me the opportunity to touch many lives. I have had triumphs and failures, which have pushed me to continually seek out ways to better myself as a clinician. This has included obtaining my critical care certification and gaining experience as charge nurse and preceptor. Over the past few years I have become more involved in orienting graduate nurses which has provided me the opportunity to not only shape the career of many nurses, but has also allowed me to continually evaluate and question the manner in which patient care is provided. Given the opportunity to complete my education in nurse anesthesia I would welcome the chance to one day be involved in the education and training of future generations of certified registered nurse anesthetists. Any feedback is welcomed, positive or negative! I especially wouldn't mind hearing from a few SRNA's who have recently gone through the application process. I will continue to work on it regardless but hope to get some feedback. Thanks in advance!
  15. Hello: Just an overview of who I am, my experiences, my current job situation and concerns, and then hopefully some advice from all of you guys! I have been a nurse for 7 years and have been working in my current position for the last 6 years. I currently work in a busy MICU/SICU and have taken on a lot of responsibility within this unit including change RN, Preceptor, and am often called on by colleagues for my clinical expertise. At first I very much enjoyed my job in the ICU. The patients were challenging, the staff was close knit, I went to work with great energy to take care of the sickest patients within the unit, and more importantly I left feeling I took excellent care of my patients. I loved critical care and more important loved being a nurse. Then about 3 years ago things started to change. Staffing issues started to spring up and the staffing norms within the unit started to change. Prior to the staffing crunch are staffing ratio was 2:1 (most common) 1:1 (2nd most common) and 3:1 (rare). Over the last 3 years my unit continues to struggle with staffing and we are more often times required to care for 3 patients each and it is now very rare to have a 1:1 patient. Also just as a side note my ICU provides advanced treatments such as post cardiac arrest cooling, High Freq Ventilation, Prone Therapy, IABP, ventriculostomy, and although not a trauma center we frequently use the level one for massive transfusion protocol for GI Bleeds. So as you can see the acuity level can be quite high at times, which is what makes the norm” of 3:1 staffing ratio concerning. So, without mentioning any specific examples, there have been many times that I have found myself or observed my coworkers in patient care situations that are unsafe. This has left me to not only dread the thought of going to work, but it has worn me down so badly that I often regret my decision to become an RN in the first place. Often I find myself overwhelmed to provide safe and quality care to my patients, and routinely feel as if my patient care suffers directly related to the fact that I just cannot be in 3 rooms at one time. Management states they are trying to get us some help, but that HR and other roadblocks are slowing down the process. So as of right now I know that I should look for another job but part of me feels guilty to leave the unit I once loved. I feel that I am turning my back on my coworkers and the patients in my hospital's community. Also being so invested (charge RN/Preceptor/Resource RN) I know that my ICU would have a hard time replacing me with a nurse that could take on all the roles I currently have. I keep telling myself its going to get better give it time” and that its not going to be better elsewhere” but the last few weeks I really have been feeling down professionally and it is effecting my personal and home life. Any feedback, kind words, "i've been there before" or thoughts would be welcomed. Also Sorry for the long post, it was a LONG shift last night and I really needed to get this off my chest!
