What the Heck to You Do on Night Shifts?
I know, right? We consider it a blessing if we get 30 minutes to eat and use the bathroom UNINTERRUPTED by petty issues

TPN, Chemo and double lumen central line
Hi, I am an RN with chemo and TPN experience. It was fine for the TPN to be stopped to infuse the sedating meds. It was a brief interruption, and it was started right back up. It was better to use the TPN than to stop the chemo, as most chemo has to be started at the same time everyday (for 24 hour bags).

Help in deciding which specialty
Hi, If you want to do women's health, then you should go for it. I wouldn't worry about narrowing your education too much. If you love it, do it! If you're also interested in FNP, there are some schools that offer a dual FNP/midwifery degree where you can take care of families and deliver babies. You also seemed to be interested in the ER...You could do acute care NP and you'd get plenty of cardiac experience. You just need to decide what population of people and the type of setting you'd like to work with. Good luck!

Zosyn over 4 hrs
The hospital I work at has been infusing zosyn over four hours for about two years now. We learned that this practice results in a better therapeutic drug level for the patient. Seems to be driven by evidence based practice. If you're really interested in the science behind it, ask a pharmacist!

What is your biggest nursing pet peeve?
when patients/families do not use the call light and come out of their room to find you. however, they cannot find you because you are busy with another patient. so they grab the first person they see. nurses who leave work for you to do... charge nurses not caring that you have multiple busy patients, and it's 3 pm (or 3 am for that matter) and you still haven't had lunch yet, and still give you that new admission.

Nursing shortage?
hi, yes, it means that, and a bunch of other things; it's multifaceted. one thing to note is the demand of students seeking an undergraduate BSN degree. they're aren't enough faculty to teach the students.
