Hi Kvistine, I agree with the above, however, I was asked about my current career (12 years and currently employed in Automotive) and why I didn't choose nursing from the get go. Yes they do have programs for displaced autoworkers however, if you are still employed in your current field they want to be sure you are making the right move as you said....I think your explanation is great....but just stating the obvious of being prepared.

@ Kvistine, Just a word of advice.....since you are a working professional (with many years of automotive experience) - be prepared to answer why you did not pursue nursing from the get go and pursued Engineering. I think they might be looking at automotive workers trying to find a ticket out since it has been so bad recently....wish you all the best getting to your goals!

I am going to offer those hope (and stressing over the 4.0) with low prereq GPAs. I took my bio's 10 year's ago and got 2 Cs (I was fresh out of high school at the time). My prereq GPA was 3.1 - bare minimum (they aren't accepting it anymore) - but I was grandfathered into the old requirements since I applied before September. I was rejected the first time I applied and accepted the second. Hope that helps. I am proof that Oakland is not just looking at prereq GPAs. I had a 3.9 in my undergrad in business. I think (as we all here did) I showed a strong desire, committment and passion to get in the nursing field. I felt good after my second inteview. I have been a working professional for 12 + years and am currently employed in automotive. I should note that I have no healthcare experience - but am currently looking into shadowing at the local hospitals. Kvistine - do not stress over prereq perfection (I'm sure we all have perfectionist tendancies and many of us have that A type personalities - it helps us to get to our goals) - but life and the nursing field is far from perfect - so I think they are looking for well rounded flexible individuals.....and also, if you are rejected the first round (hopefully not) - it definitely seems to pay off to try again.

I start in September - one year to take the three prereqs. I am so happy! Congrats guys!

I too received my acceptance letter - I never got my hopes up due to the last tortorous time but I have to say the sweet reward of success is much worth the agony! I think Oakland turned away some really good nurses!! At Evansmom, I know it is hard when you keep getting the door slammed in your face but determination does pay off! Don't give up! Well - I am noticing a pattern here. It seems the reject letters went out the last week. I am at work now and do not have access to my mail, however, I can see what is coming. I hope all can remember that life is not a race but a journey and use this rejection and disappointment to fan the flame that got us here in the first place. I hope to see you all on this website discussing our nursing jobs in the future!!

well...another long day for me too! Nothing in the mailbox....I just want to get this over with as well now. I'm with you evansmom - just let me down already!

Ebledsoe, Chin up and keep pursuing your dreams! I am sorry to hear that and am bracing myself also. It will get me quite angry if Oakland waited until the last week to send out all rejection letters. That is torture. I am hoping that someone on here waiting will receive good news. My mail hasn't come but thanks for letting us know and suffering it out with us!! Keep trying and we all will get there!

Hi there, I received nothing yesterday and mail hasn't come yet today. I'm sure you guys all understand - this has been a very long tortorous week by far! I hope we all hear soon. Hope we can find it in us to relax tonight!

Hi All, @ evansmom, Do the other programs have a similar process as OU or are they different? I'm thinking in my mind that different people interviewed different candidates - so maybe the first set of interviewers made their decisions with their candidates and sent out those letters.... I can't figure this out - if they made all decisions for the class - then why wouldn't they send out all letters at once (with rejections as well) - why would they make us wait to plan our futures? What scares me is the deposit date of August 27....they surely have to give us time (if we were accepted in the program) to turn in our deposits. As the days go by, I am accepting defeat and planning the future. I will pursue other opportunities and evansmom - if it doesn't happen don't give up!! Keep trying to pursue your dreams! I hope you get in too!

ejcl68, Thank you so much for jumping in here and relieving some of our anxiety for those who did not receive any news yet. (It is stomach churning sickening waiting) and also very frustrating to get the mail and have nothing. It would be a relief to get something, anything yes or no. Anyway, good luck to all and here is to another long day of torturous waiting!

ejcl68, thanks for that information. can you tell me if your received an email as well or did you only receive a letter int he mail? that way, i will stop checking my email every hour on the hour! :) - so much in life requires waiting - it's the hardest part!

Evansmom, Why don't you feel optimistic? Is it just because there are many applicants??

Haven't heard anything yet and I have set my expectations low as well....so hang in there - maybe we will be pleasantly surprised.
