  1. Hi everybody, first time poster here. I work at a State of Alabama hospital. My job title is RN1 and i do med nurse, floor nurse, and charge nurse duties. My immediate supervisor is the shift supervisor for the entire hospital with the job title of RN2, which pays 10k a year more. The ADON and DON now want all RN1s to assume the role of backup SS when the regular SS is out. Of course, they want to pay RN1 pay for RN2 work. Historically, at least at our facility, the ADON was the back up SS. The ADON is adamant that she will not work night shift (my shift), and the DON is supporting her. If I had wanted to be SS I would have gone into administration instead of patient care, besides the fact I have not been trained and I am not comfortable being shift supervisor. Also, 3 out of 4 of our shift supervisors have been written up in the last month for what I feel are trivial (made up?) reasons. My question is this: while some of our RN1s would JUMP at the chance to be SS to get a break from being on the floor, can I be FORCED to be shift supervisor and not be paid for it? None of the RN1s on my shift want to SS because we have seen the crappy way the current SS's are being treated. Any thoughts? Any help?!?
