I work in critical care and feel that 12 hour shifts best suit this environment. Continuity of care is very important when patients are very sick with multi treatments occuring, leaving room for information to be missed or errors to occur. It's great to follow the same nurse for 2-3 shifts taking care of the same patients. You work as a team to provide the best possible outcome for your patients. On a personal note I only have to work 3 12hr shifts per week to be considered fulltime at my hospital. This is very beneficial during the summer because you can schedule your shifts together and end up with 5 days off in a row. It's a vacation without using your vacation time. Good luck on your project! ------------------
