How in the world do you make it in CA?
Hi, I actually just moved to California from Indiana last year and really like it. I'm living in LA make around $27/hr with $4 differential for nights and find that it is defintely enough money to survive on here. I feel like I do just as well, maybe even better, money wise as my nurse friends that still live in Indiana. I live right by the ocean, drive a nice new car and have enough money left over at the end of the month to put in savings or splurge on vacations and social activities. If you are young and don't have to worry about anyone but yourself, I would recommend living here...there is just so much to do and experience here and is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am never bored here because there is always something to do. Yeah, you most likely won't be able to buy a house here on your own, but that's not really a priority for me right now...why would you even want to buy a house when you're young. I don't anticipate living here for the rest of my life (but you never know), but let me tell you, I will never move back to Indiana. It is sooooooooo boring!!

How many weekends are you required to work?
Hi everyone, I was just curious how many weekend shifts you were required to work in a month. I have to work 4 weekend shifts per month, and in my opinion, feel that it is a lot. It seems like all my friends that are nurses in other states are required to work a lot less than that. Just curious to hear what other nurses that work in hospitals were required to work.

working weekends
I was just curious as to how many weekends other nurses were required to work. I have to work 4 weekend shifts per month, which in my opinion I feel is too much. I have talked to some of my nurse friends in other states and I am required to work more weekend shifts than all of them. So I wanted to find out how many weekends nurses in southern california are required to work.

YeeHaw! Great new job
Hey congratulations on the new job! Sounds great! I was just curious though how you found the job? Did you look in the newspaper or on the internet or did you know someone? It seems like all you can find are jobs working in a hospital. I was just wondering because I am interested in working at a doctor's office setting sometime in the future.

Applying for RN license in CA...need some advice!
Hi NeuroRN, I am applying for an IP as well. I've heard from some people that it takes a while to get the paperwork back and from others that it only takes around a month so I thought I'd be safe and get one. I will be moving to the Los Angeles area working in a neuro/trauma ICU which I noticed that you work in one as well...any words of advice? Do you enjoy working there?

Applying for RN license in CA...need some advice!
Hello everyone! I have a little dilemma. I am graduating in May and currently applying for my license to practice in California for the first time. On the application it says to report all convictions even if they have been expunged from your record. Well two years ago I was convicted for Illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor in the state of Indiana, which is where I'm from...I was 19 at the time...I am now 21. I did a diversion program and had it expunged from my record. I am still going to report it on the application...I have a letter typed out explaining everything along with copies of the court documents. I was just wondering if you think they would deny me from getting my license because of this. Also, how much longer do you think it will take before I hear anything from them because I heard it takes much longer to get your paperwork back from California. Please help me! All advice is appreciated!
