  1. Sarah21063 that is great! Any additional information you want to pass on would be great! Did you get any breaks in between your semesters? If so, how long were they?
  2. I really didn't think I would get in, but getting the acceptance started a TON of thoughts in my mind. I am still trying to determine all the fun things that many people may not think about, insurance (not health - car, renters, hurricane related?), where to live, roommate or not?, how much things will cost (scrubs, stethoscope, etc), along with the regular stuff for a budget, cpr classes, doctor visits, immunizations, etc. It has been a whirlwind. Thanks for the positive notes about UTMB. Good luck to everyone!
  3. Sarah21063, Thanks for the hint for Apartments Galveston. They seem nice. I will see what they get back to me with. Are you in the program now?
  4. Both programs are out of state for me. I don't live in Texas. The other program is at the Medical Branch in Galveston, and from what I can determine, it is a GREAT program. A lot more involved with their BACC 2 students than UTA seems to be. I don't think I am going to get into UTA though. My GPA isn't high enough in my 4 science classes (that is the GPA they use!). So UTMB had an essay and everything that went with their application and I think that is great. Plus I had an interview so they had more than 4 grades to determine whether to let me in or not. Still trying to determine costs of moving/out-of-state tuition, etc.
  5. Hey everyone! Been working hard at finding funding and I ran across some good news! I spoke to someone with Financial Aid. She said we are eligible for 12,500 per academic year. So that means 6250 for spring, 6250 for summer and 12,500 for fall (since we won't be there in the spring they use it all for fall!). So that is 25,000!! BUT - we have to reapply for financial aid for the fall in the spring as the academic calendar ends at the end of summer session (make sense - I know I am a bit confused). So it is sounding a bit more promising! Off I go to do more budgeting, but I wanted to share the information I found out!! Have a GREAT day!!
  6. Last spring they sent letters in the mail. No emails & nothing on My Mav so just wait for the mail. I received an email a WHILE back saying we would hear the first week in November. Unfortunately, I have been accepted to a 12mo BSN program elsewhere and have to make my decision before UTA will likely notify me. Paying out of state tuition for the other program will be tough (lots of loans), but hey....I may not have another choice at this point in time. Good luck, quit worrying till the 2nd week in November! Just start getting ready in case you are accepted or wait-listed. Get your vaccines and CPR, etc. Also, look into volunteering at one of the hospitals if you don't already work there. Volunteer work is GREAT on an application (school or job)! Have a GREAT day everyone!
  7. Need help with financial planning for the year! Has anyone done a budget/spreadsheet listing all your estimated costs, etc? I am attempting too but am not sure how much to list for some stuff, or what all to list! Any help would be appreciated! ttnncc
  8. I also got the acceptance notice yesterday, so tomorrow I will be trying to figure out financing and all the costs that will be associated. I would like to get something narrowed down so that I know it will be paid for when I accept. Very stressful time. Exciting but stressful. So if anyone has any hints and helpful info - as I am moving from out of state - please let me know! Congrats to all receiving acceptances!
  9. Krmolina - I am thinking that would be a good place to get to know each other and possibly find roommates, etc when the time comes. (which may be soon if we can find $$)
  10. Does anyone know the address to the FB page. I can't find it. Should someone start a new one? (maybe label it UTMB SON BACC-2 2012)
  11. What about out of state tuition. 15K is less than half of what I need!
  12. DD - Good luck in wherever God takes you!
  13. Does anyone know if they started a Facebook Page for the Spring Program Students? I know someone had mentioned it a while back. Thanks!
  14. I didn't think there was an application fee. Once you are admitted to the school (school fee) and you have your intended major as nursing. Then you get a nursing adviser to view your transcripts to see if you need any additional prereqs. After all that you can apply to the SON and there is no fee for that application if memory serves correct. Good Luck...I may be applying again for Fall soon. Waiting to hear back on spring selections still. I applied to both Accelerated and Traditional in an attempt to increase my chances.
  15. I would have been in that same interview situation had I not had a funeral to go to. I had vacation planned for 2 days after the interview, but since I live out of state I was granted a phone interview. I guess I lucked out. Not sure what you do, can you switch with anyone? Take a vacation day?
  16. jluster, How long have you been on your own? I have been independent of my parents since 96 and they are about to retire so I can't see using their information. They are not going to cosign anything for me either. Let me know what you find out. I have called enrollment services 2-3 times now and can't get them to call back. Any tricks?
  17. Sarahbeth, I have heard 2-3 days a week. I haven't been accepted yet. Just interviewed on Thurs with Dr. Cuellar. She told me I should hear by the end of this week. Plus I have to find financing. I am also interested in Houston area, as we will be at hospitals there too. Keep in touch or privately message me if you want to talk more! ttnncc
  18. Has anyone attended the Nursing Information sessions? Is anyone attending the one in November? I am thinking of going down for it if I am admitted so I can learn more about the area and meet people.
  19. Hey Sarah, Thanks for the information. What if our parents refuse to release their tax info? I am almost 40 and my parents don't want anything to do with my financing! I am still waiting for Enrollment Services/Financial Aid to call me back. I called last Wednesday and am now wondering just how backed up they are. I appreciate the information though!
  20. Do the drug workups to. Like collinergic (sp?) drugs effect you in the following, etc. Like everyone says the tests are scenario based. I also printed the modules so I could review them, but I wished I had taken better notes. The class builds on itself. What you learn the first week will play into the drugs you learn the last couple of weeks. The final was cumulative, some questions from past tests and a lot of new ones. Don't slack. Stay up on your work and review past weeks. I would only look at the book if a topic is not covered on the exam. I remember there were a couple chapters that she did pull questions from and I bombed those questions. I also had someone I studied with (over the phone as I am out of state) for aprox 3 hours 2x a week. That REALLY helped as we could talk about the drugs and get each other clarified on stuff. Good luck. You will do fine!
  21. Some of the private tech schools are very pricey! I am shocked UTA doesn't require out of state tuition for their program, that is one reason I applied. Are you saying UTA is not accredited or Texas A&M Commerce?
  22. Nene1488, I am with you on that one. Are you out of state? It is over double for out of state students. I am thinking we are going to have to go old school and double up in apartments, etc. (Like 2 people in a 1 bedroom, and 4 in a 2 bedroom), so we can lower costs. I am in major pray mode and am going to try to talk to financial aid this week to get my ducks in some sort of a row! I wish I had answers. Loans are so expensive too. 6.8% interest is rediculous when I can get 1.9-2.5 on a car loan. The government should be making a killing on interest from student loans! Let me know if you hear of any ways to pay for this dream of ours! ttnncc
  23. Ms. Mila, Good luck. I am in the same boat. I have a previous degree, and the correct number of credits, but my science GPA is not a 3.8 or above like they want. My overall since returning to school is great, but that doesn't help much. I never would have dreamed a B 15 years ago was going to kill my chances of getting into a school years later. Let me just say, a B 15 years ago is like an A+++ these days (I think - I went to the hardest state school where I live). I don't remember my HESI or TEAS V scores, but good luck. I dislike standardized tests. I know I told the TEAS at a local Tech school and was in the 98th % for their school. What does that say about their applicant pool??!! I am retaking my core sciences so that I can apply to more places for August if I am not accepted to my #1 place and can find the financial aid to go with it. This making a decent living has hurt me. LOL Keep us posted on what you decide. ttnncc
  24. Check your email LavenderButterfly!
  25. LavenderButterfly, I am also ready to go and super excited. Too bad my family isn't with me anymore now that the cost sunk in. They are scared I won't be able to afford it and want me to look at more LPN/RN programs here in the state. But for those I have to retake more of my undergrad classes because they are old. UTMB is not requiring me to retake but will make it harder for me in an already difficult program. How can I send you my email addy privately?
