Samuel Merritt ABSN 2010 Admissions - San Francisco, Oakland, San Mateo
Hey Robinson1211, Just wondering how it all turned out for you with the Wells Fargo loan. I applied, and they requested a co-signer, so I am in the process of doing that. I'm wondering if other banks are less likely to require a cosigner than wells fargo if you have good credit, or if all of them will because the amount is so high? Anyone have any insight? It's so hard to have been accepted, but to be in limbo about the funding. Thanks!

Hey Robinson1211, Thanks for the info and I'm so sorry to hear you've had so much trouble with the loan approval process. Nothing about getting into nursing school has been easy so far, that's for sure! I remember something like there being a 40,000 max on the alternative loans, but I'm not sure if that's true...it certainly won't cover tuition + living expenses...

Hi RachWake and Robinson1211, I live in the east bay (Castro Valley), and intend to live there while in school. Even though the BART commute is about 45 mins, and not exactly cheap, it's much less stressful and cheaper than driving, and you can always read, zone out, sleep, study on BART. My suggestion about housing would be to look into renting a room in an apartment or a house in SF in the mission district if you want to be near campus. But, keep in mind that the clincals are going to be all over the Bay Area, so living near campus will help on the class days, but there will still be commuting involved to our clinical placements. I'm so anxious to know how the schedule works, and where our placements will be... As far as the loans go, I just met with the financial aid counselor yesterday and definitely feel a little discouraged because of the state of the economy and I know getting loans is tougher than it used to be, and we have to take out so much because we don't qualify for a lot of grants and tuition is so expensive! Do you guys know what the max amount is that we can borrow for our "alternative loan"? I'm trying to make my budget, and just don't know how it's all going to work out .... Looking forward to meeting you two soon!

Email her--you can look her up on the website ( I can't post names or emails here--but her initials are AS, she is the director of Admissions). She got right back to me.

I did--I just heard back from her, in fact, and she said I am in #2 position now. So...that means you must be #1, right?!?!

Samuel Merritt ABSN 2010 Admissions - San Francisco, Oakland, San Mateo
Hi Preeti, I called yesterday and a very nice woman in the admissions office told me to contact the director of admissions, who should be back in the office now. So, i would contact her and ask your position since our counselor is on vacation. Best of luck!

anyone have any more news to report?

I asked, and she told me that they haven't heard back from everyone yet, so I expect we will hear more news in the coming weeks...here's hoping!

Thanks for the update, Preeti! Did she give you an idea of how many people they have heard back from? I'm just wondering if there were only 6 people who turned down their acceptance, or they just haven't reached everyone yet who hasn't sent in their deposits....

I'd be curious to know how many people on the waiting list confirmed that they will stay on it too, but am even more curious to know how many people didn't turn in their deposit!

Thanks for the update, Preeti. So, if I understand correctly, the letters of intent + $350 deposit for those who have been accepted are due on 7/6, so hopefully that means we will hear some good news over the next several weeks/month (s)....?

Also, did everyone get a confirmation letter to sign and mail back to confirm that you want to remain on the waiting list?

I got my letter today, too. Even though the admissions counselor told me I was in position #13, the letter says I am #14/50. I'm not sure how much it matters, but it is confusing to hear two different numbers. I guess I just have to keep hoping that the list will move fast...

I am #13 on the waiting list, though I had to email them to find this out. I still haven't received anything "official" (letter, call, etc), just found out because I emailed the counselor assigned to the cohort and she let me know. I don't know the official process, but it seems that some people got calls and some didn't, but I'm not sure how they are contacting everyone. Fingers crossed for everyone!!

Nothing yet....

That really would be crazy if they did a first come first served kind of thing. I really doubt that is their process, but who knows at this point? I'm #13 on the wait list and I post marked mine on march 1. Does anyone who got accepted know when their deposit is due? (I figure this is the time when they will start calling people on the waiting list..)

Hmm, I wish I knew. The counselor said that the chances were "pretty good", but I just have no idea how many folks might turn down their acceptance. Anyone know any stats on the waiting list situation?

Andy, Did you email EB, the counselor for our cohort? I emailed her twice to get an answer, so don't give up. The waiting is so hard, and even with an answer, still more waiting...Don't give up hope. i'm still keeping my fingers crossed for you.

She just replied to me. I am #13 on the waiting list. So, at least that is something! But she said I probably won't know anything more than that until the end of July. Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone! Best of luck!

Can I ask which counselor told you your waitlist status? I emailed one of them, but she never replied to me.

Thanks John for the info. I'm sending my transcript requests right now. Gotta have that back up plan, but hopefully we won't need it! Anyone know if we need to resubmit our TEAS scores to SMU as well because of the new electronic application system, or does the fact that they have them already suffice?
